Wet plate collodion is a chemically based process that requires many steps, attention to detail is required throughout all of them. At Manachrome we make everything from scratch.

Every wet plate portrait we make begins with a clean sheet of glass. It is then carefully coated with a collodion recipe that we mix from scratch in house. After the collodion has bonded with the glass it can be sensitized to light.

Because our images are made on glass, they appear to be blank or transparent when held over a white background. They truly come to life when placed over something dark or black.

One of the promises we made for ARVO 2.0 was that we were going to work in close dialogue with our local producers. We knew sourdough was not going to be easy to find on this island but we found @roscoe.sourdough by fate and never looked back. From homemade organic cheeses and jams to micro greens grown in Nuuanu, cattle raised on Big Island- we are so stoked to share the story of where our food comes from. At ARVO, we always believed in collaborations, and this one is the most important of them all. #comingsosoon
