Missed the OG press of this, no real availability in the UK and exorbitant shipping asked from the US at the time. The repress is this rather fabulous super splatter which looks unbelievable, so maybe it was destined in the stars, right? Anyhow, barring my aesthetic pleasure, the aural assault is what all this is about and it’s fabulous. Equally a record that relies on doom as well as a hardcore that delivers a sludgy, in your face nihilistic rage, delivered with a subtlety akin to being thrown into a pit of vipers against your will. I am hoping to catch the band on their UK visit if I can get my ridiculously busy work diary to align. I reckon they’ll strip the paint from the venue walls. Sounds like that is a perfect night out 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

The newbie from this fab trio from Liverpool has arrived in my hands. From the get go, I could smell the brimstone emanating from each and every song they delivered. Put them on in London a good while back, and the sounds were grimly good, with a weight that moved air and hung like an oppressive barrier. The latest lives up to all that reputation and I am glad that whilst production has improved, there is no sign of becoming something else musically - because what they have always done is already a thing to behold. I guess my only - and self centred complaint - is this could have easily been a double album, but that’s just me. Filthy, sludgy funeral doom at its best. Stay heavy!

Okay, back to some proper underground gloom on the latest EP from German doomsters Eremit. The band don’t do things by half measures, each release has a painstaking level of detail across the songs, the packaging and the scarcity of each release edition. This is a second press featuring two long tracks that float between funeral doom, sludge, post metal and atmospheric black metal. It’s a heady mixture and the songs are cloyingly thick in the production, sticking like some sort of tar. Across their previous material, this has been a familiar approach with old school death metal guitar buzz adding to the melee on the senses. Love it!

Eremit - Rise of the Ruan-angh | Fucking Kill Records | Evening Glow edition limited to 100 numbered copies.
