Out of Focus #6 Artist

Work screening Wed 24 Sep 2025

Vicky Langan is a Cork-based artist working with sound, performance, and film, exploring the intimate and vulnerable connections between body, memory, and emotion. Her work uses raw materials and amplified body sounds to create personal, ritualistic landscapes that blend the domestic with the mysterious. In collaboration with filmmaker Maximilian Le Cain, she has produced sixteen moving image works shown worldwide and has received several Arts Council awards.

Play Ground is a tribute to the great Dutch filmmaker Frans Zwartjes. Langan & Le Cain play characters locked into patterns of sadomasochistic desire who seem unable to connect in this darkly playful but ultimately melancholy film. It formed the basis of the first Langan / Le Cain live performance.

It was one year ago on this date that the crowdfunding campaign for my short film A WOMAN OF THE DARKEST DEEDS was launched. And here we are, 12 months later and the film is finished, had its World Premiere at @corkfilmfest and will be receiving its European Premiere at @kinoskop_festival on Monday. A huge thank you to everyone who made this special project possible, it really is humbling that so many people supported it. To mark the occasion, here are some fabulous behind the scenes photographs taken by @thinizzy_ / @izzymondays.

Tune in to Dublin Digital Radio on Saturday 7 December 2024 at 2pm local time, where I will be performing excepts from my writing project DIAL, with sonic interventions by Vicky Langan and Nick Roth, in a 60 minute broadcast presented by Diatribe Records.

DIAL is a durational-procedural-aleatory work I composed by live-transcribing 5 minutes of talk radio from a different station each and every day across the entire calendar year 2021, linking these transcripts with short pieces of ‘original’ writing I produced contemporaneously.

Kindly supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.

For more details see the most recent post on my website.
