Ciao cara Italia!

This weekend, these two delicate daughters of mine will take part in a group show in Milan. HEART, a weekend-long pop-up exhibition by @vickywang.art will open this Saturday, October 3rd, at Via Lodovico Settala 29, 20124 Milan. Spero di vederti lì dalle 16 in poi!

“BÜCK DICH HOCH is born from struggle and devotion; the paradox of bending down in order to move upwards. Working with resistant materials that carry the traces of labour, the works in the show are united in their common embrace of doubt and weakness, making it an inherent part of the artistic process. They bend not only to the confines of their own materiality, but address their surroundings: Neither fitting into it seamlessly nor negating it, but standing their ground.

Looping through the corridor and around the building, the works of Sander, Homann and Urban cross-reference one another and the industrial architecture of the space. Putting yourself out there while simultaneously working something larger into existence shifts from a personal struggle into a shared existential pursuit.“

Anyone who knows @skh_dus and me usually also knows when our passion for art first began: on a Saturday afternoon at Art Cologne 2010. At that decisive moment, we first met Vicky and Jochen at the Dogenhaus Galerie’s stand (later Galerie Jochen Hempel). What began right there at the fair – over at least one Kölsch – in such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere was to develop into a wonderful friendship shortly afterwards. Vicky and Jochen, and their participation in a wide variety of European art fairs, served as our first guide to the art market, which had been largely unknown to us until then. Leipzig as a city, and the Spinnerei with its galleries and art walks, became a fixture in our calendar for many years. And now, 16 years after it all began, this summer of 2026 brings two pieces of news that are steering this relationship in new directions. Jochen has decided to take a year’s break from running the gallery and is setting off on a grand journey, whilst Vicky is launching her very own art project – based in Milan!
