It’s not always about how much you spend.⁠ ⁠ Sometimes it’s a coffee. A biscuit. A taxi home.⁠ ⁠ In this week’s episode, David Parr shared this story about Rory Sutherland sending his daughters Uber vouchers while they were away at university.⁠ ⁠ Not because they couldn’t afford a taxi.⁠ ⁠ Because he wanted them to spend their last £10 having fun with their friends, while still knowing they could get home safely.⁠ ⁠ And THAT is the bit that matters.⁠ ⁠ The £20 isn’t really the gift. What I wore today! I knew today was going to be busy, so I dressed for the part. I absolutely love this new bright blue jumpsuit from River Island (obviously Vinted!) paired with my white heels, and I was ready to take on today. Client meetings, supporting my team, seeing a lovely BDM from a lender, talking collaboration. Thank you Goodwood Revival for the most wonderful day. We LOVE the classic cars, meeting wonderful warm interesting people, being immersed in a bygone era, and particularly for me the fashion is so beautiful and inspiring. Reviving vintage clothing in such a creative way is very special. The stories woven in to those threads! We were asked to take part in the Best Dressed competition which was very exciting! Selfish.⁠ ⁠ Not exactly a word we tend to associate with great leadership, is it?⁠ ⁠ But my guest this week, Gary Parsons, thinks we need to completely rethink it.⁠ ⁠ Because being selfish doesn’t have to mean putting yourself first at the expense of everyone else. We don’t see the world and we don’t see things as they are. We see the world and things as we are, which can be very different from the person sitting next to you, sitting opposite you, or on the other end of a video call.⁠ ⁠ So make sure when you’ve given instructions, you ask the person to just confirm that they have everything that they need. Give them the space and the permission to clarify anything that you’ve said.⁠ ⁠ It’s not about conflict. It’s not about having an argument.
