In celebration of our upcoming One-Year Anniversary, we are excited to announce “CELLULOSE COMPOSITION,” our very first exhibition featuring student work at @chicagoartdept. We hope to see you at the opening on September 18th! Curated by Talia Kim Wright and Aidan Anne Frierson, “CELLULOSE COMPOSITION” features 21 papermaking artists who have showcase exemplary passion, excitement, and curiosity. We have chosen artists who fully lean into the touch that papermaking insists on; those who work large—stretching fiber across deckle boxes to create entire landscapes of bonding—and those who work small—using pulp to craft intimate, detailed forms that hold the memory of the hand. “CELLULOSE COMPOSITION” is a celebration marking One Year of Chicago Pulp—but more than that, it is an example of touch, and how just one fingerprint can impact an entire body of work, creating bonds to last a lifetime. What we cherish here at RAC is art, creativity, and the infinite possibilities the two bring together. VIDA SAČIĆ - “𝗦𝗢𝗙𝗧 𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗦” @vidasacic Pozivamo vas na otvorenje samostalne izložbe “𝗦𝗢𝗙𝗧 𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗦” umjetnice 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗰̌𝗶𝗰́. Otvorenje će se održati u 𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗸, 𝟳. 𝘀𝗿𝗽𝗻𝗷𝗮 [𝟭𝟵 𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶] u 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗷𝗶 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀. Izložba istražuje teme doma, pripadnosti i interkulturalnih razmjena kroz medij tiska, polazeći od pojma arhiva kao prostora sjećanja, identiteta i prijenosa iskustava. Propitujući što čini “meki arhiv”, radovi otvaraju pitanja osobne i kolektivne memorije te načina na koji tragovi života, migracije i kulturnih susreta ostaju pohranjeni izvan službenih povijesti. Koristeći tipografske reljefne tehnike, od tiskarskih ploča i drvenih matrica do metalnog sloga, Vida Sačić razvija umjetničku praksu u kojoj se tiskana riječ susreće s temama podrijetla, rada i pripadnosti. Izložba povezuje iskustvo života između Hrvatske i Sjedinjenih Američkih Država, stvarajući prostor za dijalog između dviju kulturnih tradicija kroz materijalnost otiska i arhivsku logiku. Soft Archives predstavlja novi ciklus radova u kojem arhiv nije zamišljen kao statična zbirka dokumenata, već kao živa struktura sastavljena od sjećanja, jezika, predmeta i osobnih iskustava. Izložba poziva posjetitelje na promišljanje načina na koji oblikujemo vlastite arhive te kako oni sudjeluju u izgradnji identiteta i osjećaja pripadnosti. Pozivamo vas na otvorenje izložbe Vide Sačić „Soft Archives” koje će se održati u utorak, 7. srpnja u 19 sati u Galeriji Karas (Ulica kralja Zvonimira 58). Iz predgovora Ivana Bujana izdvajamo: Novi ciklus radova umjetnice Vide Sačić, kojim se predstavlja u Galeriji Karas, zaokupljen je pitanjima doma, pripadnosti i interkulturalnih razmjena. Budući da je „arhiv” dovoljno širok pojam da obuhvati sva pitanja kojima se bavi, ne čudi što ga je umjetnica odabrala kao okvir izložbe naslovljene Soft Archives (Meki arhivi). Naime, etimologija riječi „arhiv” potječe od grčke riječi arkheion – kuća, prebivalište, adresa – mjesta boravka viših magistrata, arhonta. Arhivi se tradicionalno smatraju „tvrdima”; sastoje se od materijalnih predmeta i dokumenata. Stoga se nameće pitanje: što su zapravo meki arhivi i čemu nas oni mogu naučiti? Radeći s tipografskim reljefnim tehnikama, od tiskarskih ploča i drva do metalnog sloga, Sačić sebe definira kao umjetnicu „tiskane riječi”. Istodobno, svoj rad smješta u određeni vremenski i geopolitički kontekst, navodeći da je odrasla u Hrvatskoj tijekom 1990-ih, a profesionalno se ostvarila u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama, gdje danas živi i djeluje. Izložba Soft Archives obuhvaća upravo one dimenzije ključne za razumijevanje njezine prakse – medij, podrijetlo i nastojanje da poveže dvije kulturne tradicije – pri čemu arhiv postaje ključna metoda za razumijevanje rada izloženog u Galeriji Karas. Biografija: Vida Sačić, umjetnica rođena u Hrvatskoj koja živi i djeluje u Chicagu, u svojem radu kroz medij tiska istražuje teme roda, imigracije i rada. Izlagala je u Muzeju umjetnosti DeVos u Michiganu, The Center for Book Arts u New Yorku te u drugim međunarodnim institucijama, uz redovita predstavljanja na izložbama u Chicagu. Sačić aktivno radi na projektima u uglednim studijima i muzejima, među kojima su Studio TipoRenesansa u Ljubljani i Muzej Hamilton Wood Type & Printing u Wisconsinu. Njezini se radovi nalaze u zbirkama institucija kao što su Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art u Indiani i Newberry Library u Chicagu.

On the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we’re asking questions about our nation’s democracy in progress: Are all people equal in our city? What happens in Chicago when workers or people of color stand up for their rights? How do we honor the Indigenous stewards of the land we now call Chicago? What can we do to create a “more perfect union” today in Chicago and the United States? Anchored in CHM’s collection materials relating to the United States’ founding and Chicago’s civic legacies, #USat250: Civic Action in Chicago invites visitors to engage with these questions and their own lived experiences through artistic interpretation, exhibitions, and educational programming. Every three months in 2026, a new work from a local artist will appear in our lobby. Each work reflects upon the lasting legacy of one of four foundational documents in CHM’s collection. From January to March, stop by to see @vidasacic’s work responding to the Declaration of Independence.
