This past month @mckenzierivertrust , a Eugene based non-profit, closed on a purchase of 7 acres of rugged coastline south of Yachats. They worked with local tribes and organizations to gather funds, including a generous contribution from @view_the_future as well as @thecapeperpetuacollaborative @friendsofotterrock @nature_oregon and private donors.

The land is set to be returned to the Confederated Tribe of Siletz Indians this month. This is a historic and very important moment, and we are so thankful for all of the work to make this and hopefully much more like it, possible!

Deadline Oct 6! Watch the full video, learn more, find interactive maps, USFS & RR facts, talking points & use ECC's easy COMMENT BUILDER to submit your own comments at the QR code in these slides or go to:
EmeraldCurtainCollective.org/Act-now

@emerald_curtain_collective has created a great Action Center on their website, so after Submitting your Roadless Rule comment, please visit it often to keep up with protecting our bedrock environmental laws and our shared Public Lands.

We should all be deeply concerned about the most recent challenge to the integrity of America’s national forests– the proposed repeal of the 2001 U.S.FS Roadless Area Conservation Rule. This could open up 45 million acres of our public lands to road-building, logging, mining, and development. & this could include new DATA CENTERS. The Admin is already taking multiple steps to allow hundreds of proposed Data Centers on Public Lands.

We all must all tell the USFS what Roadless areas on our National Forests mean to us, why they are important, & why their protections need to be retained & strengthened, instead of repealed.
Wildfire fighting access & other uses are already built in. There are already too many loopholes that allow "fuel management" AKA logging & mining, extraction & even "temporary roads". Logging roads degrade streams. More clearcuts= More toxic herbicides too!

Roadless wildlands protected under this rule provide abundant benefits to nature and to people. In their current status, roadless areas provide critical wildlife habitat, mature contiguous forests, scenic vistas, clean water for fish & about 100 mill people, carbon storage, hunting, fishing, ATV & recreation opportunities. Oregon's outdoor economy relies on this!

One often overlooked crucial benefit is that they are critical to the preservation of Wilderness character, including the “qualities” & “values”
The absence of Inventoried Roadless Areas adjacent to Wilderness would make it much more likely that industrial forest mngt would occur right up to the wilderness boundary, & in those that do not have this de facto buffer, it already does.

CPC is excited to celebrate the youth participants of our "Central Coast For All Program" who completed the Coastal Documentary Explorers camp with OMSI Camp Gray last month!

Over the course of two weeks students learned documentary filmmaking while working with a team of professional filmmakers from NW Documentary.

Some of the students that were here earlier in the Summer to experience the CCFA program, were now the brilliant documentary makers behind the cameras! What a gift, to be seen and captured by these talented young folks mere months after we first adventured around the Central Coast together.

CPC was honored to be the subject of one of the films and in late July we enjoyed a wonderful day with partner orgs highlighting the power of collaboration and helping to make the coast an inclusive space for all.

The students debuted their completed films at OMSI's Empirical Theater in Portland on July 31st, and these films will soon be available for the public to enjoy!

Our friend Devin Boss of @northeastproduction enthusiastically joined us to congratulate everyone and we had a very full circle experience of storytelling and passion for Cape Perpetua.
Stay tuned for the film drop!
Hooray Cape Perpetua For All, Hooray Central Coast For All! ❤️🌲🌊

Three cheers for our 2026 Tidepools To Trails program! It's a wrap, baby! 💙🌲🌊

What a brilliant season we had this year, exploring life rich tidepools of the marine reserve followed by a fun local trail party with our wonderful friends from @trailkeepersoforegon .
On extra special occasion our friends from @carlton_observatory helped us round out the day by leading us in some educational stargazing at Yachats State Park 🌟

Huge shout out to everyone who joined us this summer, ya'll ROCK(fish)!! Stay tuned as we continue to grow and adapt this wonderful collaborative program, celebrating the local land sea connection while making new friends and giving back to this extra special part of the coast 💙

But if you don’t… here’s what we mean when we say conservation means doing it with people, not around them.

COLT is a coalition of 30+ members working across Oregon, each rooted in the places and communities they serve. Our collective work is bigger than any one organization — and it’s only possible because we show up, share knowledge, learn from one another, and do the work together.

That’s what a coalition can do. 🌿

🌱The annual living act of remembrance, reflection and renewal.

Every New Year's Day morning, the Amanda Trail Annual Peace Hike brings people together, not just to walk, but to remember.

This trail commemorates the Alsea Subagency of the Siletz Reservation, where the Coos, Lower Umpqua, Siuslaw, Coquille and Alsea Peoples were imprisoned in the 19th century.

Its name honors Amanda, a blind Coos woman forced to march over 80 miles, barefoot, to that prison camp.
Today, the same path becomes something different: a space for truth-telling, collective reflection, and healing.

"The Peace Hike helps heal the pain from old wounds that Tribal People have held onto for years." — Doug Barrett, Chief of the Confederated Tribes of Coos

Remembrance. Reflection. Renewal. Every year, on this trail.

On New Year’s Day, COLT joined the 16th Annual Peace Hike, organized by @viewthefuture in partnership with local Tribes. 🌊

Led by Indigenous community members, the hike honors the strength, leadership, and survival of Indigenous peoples who endured—and continue to endure—the impacts of government-sponsored genocidal policies of the 19th century. 🖤

The Peace Hike commemorates the history of the Alsea Subagency (1860–1875), including the story of Amanda, a blind Coos woman who was forcibly separated from her daughter and marched barefoot more than 80 miles to the Alsea Subagency prison camp in what is now Yachats.

Today, the Peace Hike is both an act of remembrance and a living expression of Indigenous resilience. Descendants of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, Siuslaw, and Alsea Peoples continue to lead this gathering—creating space for reflection, education, and accountability grounded in Indigenous knowledge. 🌿
