After 12 years, Columbia gave the Italian Festival quite the welcome back! 🇮🇹🍝 Finlay Park was filled with good food, great music, and friends, families, and neighbors coming together to celebrate. It was everything we hoped this festival’s return would be! A huge thank you to @tripprochesc, the participating restaurants, everyone who helped bring this tradition back, and all of you who came out to support it. We loved seeing our community come together and can’t wait to do it all again next year!

The Italian Festival is officially back in Columbia, SC! 🇮🇹 For the first time in over a decade, Finlay Park had Italian music, opera singer, sword fighting demos, a Ferrari car show, and bocce. And honestly, just having an Italian festival back in Columbia makes my heart so happy. My Nonna had a bocce pit in her yard when I was growing up, and we’d play for hours. Seeing people out there playing brought all of that right back. It’s year one of the comeback, and the organizers are hoping to make it a yearly tradition. I can’t wait to watch it grow, so put it on your radar for next year. Did you go? Sometimes you stumble upon a place that takes you right back home. ❤️🇮🇹 We happened upon @villatronco in downtown Columbia, SC—the oldest restaurant in the state—and what we didn’t expect was how much it would feel like stepping into my own Italian family. From the moment we walked through the door, the smell of homemade “gravy” filled the air. (And YES, I’m the kind of Italian who grew up calling it GRAVY, not sauce! It’s legit, there’s history behind it, just look it up! 😉😂) The meatballs cooking, the homemade everything, the warmth of the atmosphere…it took me right back to the Sunday family dinners I grew up with. And then there was Carmella. ❤️ The Sicilian owner who gave me a hug before I even knew her name. When I learned it was Carmella—my own mother’s name—I couldn’t help but smile. What are the chances?! We also had the pleasure of meeting @tripprochesc , a semi-pro table tennis player and fifth-generation member of the family, whose pride in his family’s legacy was so evident. What started as an unexpected dinner turned into a beautiful walk down memory lane. For a little while, I felt like I was home again. Home with my Italian roots, the smells, the stories, the hospitality, and the beautiful way food brings family together. It’s amazing how a place you’ve never been can make you feel like you’ve returned to somewhere you’ve always belonged. ❤️ Villa Tronco, we’ll be back! And if you ever find yourself in Columbia, SC, do yourself a favor and visit. You won’t be sorry! 🇮🇹🍝

Columbia calling 🩵 Dean and I went to visit Grey at USC, and spared not a moment getting a taste of Soda City. Fun fact: did you know Columbia was America’s first planned city? True story. Hot takes: pockets of art at almost turn, plenty of green space and riverfront access, rich history, even richer food, and the warmest people. Looking forward to getting back soon and often. (I’ve started a bucket list. Any suggestions?)
