A one-arm cable lat pulldown is excellent for building the back while allowing you to train each side independently.

Primary muscles

* Latissimus dorsi (lats) - the main target; contributes to back width and the V-taper.

* Teres major - assists the lat in pulling the upper arm down and back.

Secondary/supporting muscles

* Biceps brachii - assists with elbow flexion.

* Brachialis & brachioradialis - help with the pulling action.

* Rhomboids - assist with scapular control and retraction.

* Middle & lower trapezius - stabilize and control the shoulder blade.

* Rear deltoid - assists with shoulder extension.

* Rotator cuff muscles - stabilize the shoulder joint.

* Core/obliques - work isometrically to prevent your torso from rotating, especially when performed standing or half-kneeling.

Benefits

* Improves lat development: The unilateral setup can give you a strong stretch and contraction through the lat.

* Addresses left-to-right imbalances: Each arm has to produce its own force, so the stronger side can’t compensate for the weaker side.

* Improves mind-muscle connection: It is often easier to feel the lat working when training one side at a time.

* Allows a natural pulling path: Your shoulder and elbow aren’t locked into the same path as they can be with a fixed bar.

* Improves shoulder/scapular control: You can deliberately allow the shoulder blade to upwardly rotate at the top and then control it as you pull.

* Provides constant cable tension: The lat remains loaded throughout much of the movement.

* Can improve back symmetry: Particularly useful in bodybuilding/hypertrophy-focused programming.

Coaching cue: Think “drive the elbow down toward your hip” rather than pulling with your hand. Keep the ribs controlled and avoid turning it into a side crunch or excessive torso rotation.

And one important distinction: if your goal is lat bias, don’t over-focus on squeezing the shoulder blades together.

The moral of the story...

The last two years have brought some of the biggest challenges I've ever faced. But the journey was never supposed to be easy.

Every setback, every disappointment, and every lesson has shaped the person I am today.

What I've learned most is that protecting your peace, staying true to your values, and remaining loyal to yourself will always matter more than trying to please everyone else.

Growth isn't just about building a physique—it's about building character.

Integrity above everything. The journey continues. 🐺

orangetheory 🥹💝 a home away from home and a place that taught me so much about myself. 2 days ago I was saying “when I move back to alty I can’t wait to go back”… 😢

A total of 366 classes taken here, 366 hours working to better myself, 815miles ran and a whole lot of sweaty splat points 😂

Thanks to all the coaches for your support and pushing me to my limits. I’ll forever be proud of a 22min 5k but not sure I’d be able to get there again without OT. The community was unmatched and I’ve missed it ever since I had to leave 😢

Also met my bestie in the lounge of OT waiting for a class, 4 yrs of friendship later 🥹💝 @taz_moraz

Gutted doesn’t even describe what I feel. A truly incredible place that will be missed from the high streets of alty. will never forget taking a risk, doing a free trial and doing 5 classes in my first week. From dri tris, surprise trophy’s to dancing in the classes, waking up at 5am to go before work with my friends for years on end.

Miss you forever x

Most people think a gym is just a place to train.

It’s not.

It’s where:
• Confidence is built
• Mental health is protected
• Discipline is forged
• Communities are created

Independent gyms are being crushed by rising business rates.

If local gyms disappear…
We lose more than equipment.
We lose safe spaces.
We lose support systems.
We lose strength.
We lose our community.
We lose our family.
We lose our sanctuary.

This isn’t about politics.
It’s about protecting places that change lives.

It takes 2 minutes to stand up for your gym.

No drafting.
No complicated forms.
Just enter your details and send.

If you’ve ever:
✔ Trained here
✔ Grown here
✔ Rebuilt yourself here
✔ Found your people here

Now’s the time to back it.

Another brutal one in the books.
Body’s tired, mind’s wired.
This off-season I’m doing things I’ve never done — pushing boundaries, ticking every box, chasing the small details that make the difference at the highest level.
It’s not about feeling ready. It’s about showing up regardless.
Logbook’s not just numbers — it’s proof of obsession. 🔥

Start the new year as you mean to go on — no false promises, no pretending.
Write down what you want this year, build the plan, and follow the steps.
Small consistent actions > empty resolutions. 💯

Nearly 8 weeks post show - excuse the toilet 🤣
Fasted shots this morning 7 kilos up and body comp In a position I'm very happy with 📑✅ You will maximise your progression and growth if your reverse is done in the right way, And I haven't always done it the right way 🤣 But that's where the lessons are learnt progression is made.....
