A few features in publications that I care about from the past few years. Not bragging, just proud to have received the acknowledgment, with more to come, I hope. Peace!

Today marks a year since The Wilderness was released. A year of so much joy connecting with readers and surprisingly few cancelled flights. I finally opened my box of paperbacks (out Sept 29) and am glad I said I wanted all 40 copies so that I can donate some to incarcerated readers (did you know that some prisons only allow paperbacks?) and give away a few online too (more on that in a few weeks). In October I’m doing an event in Brooklyn with the one and only @chaninicholas and another at @nypl with @vinsoncunningham who is my brother in my heart. Come see us, and thank you for reading 💜❤️‍🔥

What if Emmett Till lived? This summer, I’ve had the life-changing privilege of working with Emmett Till’s best friend, cousin, and the last surviving witness to his kidnapping, Reverend Wheeler Parker Jr., under the stewardship of Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Lewis for the exhibition If Emmett Till Lived.

What if Emmett Till had returned home still a child, alive and free? What would that life have required of us all? What have we done in the wake of the violent injustice that ended his life? Through works from over 110 photographers and quotes from 18 hours of recordings with Reverend Parker, the exhibition imagines speculative timelines through a universe of proxies.

Curated by Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Lewis in collaboration with Reverend Wheeler Parker, Jr., If Emmett Till Lived: Freedom on American Ground opens at the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago on September 10, 2026 and is on view through December 19, 2026. Thank you to the extraordinary women Dr. Marvel McCain Parker and Ms. Quin Lavel for your presence, work, and love. Thank you to Lance Omar Thurman for accompanying this journey and for your photos this summer.

If you can’t make it to Chicago, I encourage you to visit our newly launched website at www.IfEmmettLived.org designed by Madeo.

You can also purchase the gorgeous book designed by Miko McGinty, If Emmett Till Lived: A Creative Monument at DelMonico Books D.A.P Art Books. The book features essays by leaders such as Lonnie Bunch, Sherilynn Ifill, and Paul Farber with contributions by Rep. Ayanna Pressley, John Legend, Ava Duvernay, Amy Sherald, Hank Willis Thomas, and more.

In memory of Emmett “Bobo” Till, Nolan Wells, Tasia Fortune, Pierre Damas Bel, and all people subject to the state-sanctioned and extralegal vulnerability to premature death. May we continue to create the words, the art, the tools, to render with freedom, with liberty, with justice, the birthright to dignified life.
