Good morning!
Many of you have asked me about wines from my trip to Chile and if there will be an event,so hopefully this answers some questions...
🍷 Yes, the wines that I tasted were fantastic and the wineries beautiful!
🍷 No I can't bring wine back with me. I'm not an importer. It doesn't work that way. Many of the wineries we visited are not available in local distribution. And no, I don't just buy them from a wine shopping website. It doesn't work that way.
🍷 However, I have found a fantastic sparkling rosé that I had at a restaurant, and a Sauvignon Blanc from one of the regions that we visited. I'm waiting to find the perfect red (Carmenere is what they are known for) and then I'll do an event. I have several wines coming in next week to taste test for this (It's a very hard job 😉).
🍷 So, stay tuned! I'm hoping to have something by mid-March.
🖤 Have a great Sunday everyone!

Day 2, Sunday, January 11th
☀️ I'm kind of forgetting that it's January because it's so hot and sunny however, today we drove out closer to the coast where it was much cooler!
🥂 The day started with a visit to Kingston Family Vineyards in the Casablanca Valley. Like myself, most of you have probably only had value red wines from Chile. Lots of Carménère, Merlot, etc. Part of the reason that I did this trip is that I wanted to see what else the country had to offer. This area is known for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah.
🍷 Coming from Michigan in the early 1900's, John and Caroline came to Chile looking for gold but instead started a cattle ranch in the valley. Five generations later, the family is making world class wine in the same area. We tasted some absolutely lovely Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and finished with a bottle of their delicious sparkling wine.
☀️ After a lunch by the ocean, we went to Viña Casa Marin in Lo Abarco, Just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean.
🥂 The winery was started in 2000 by María Luz Marin who was nicknamed "the mad wine woman" (I feel like I've heard some of you refer to me as that 😉). She was the first female winemaker in Chile and at the start, was a one woman operation.
🥂 Due to the proximity of the coast, nobody thought that wine could be grown here. She has definitely proven them wrong by making world class high-end Sauvignon Blanc along with Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and Pinot Noir. Her youngest son Felipe is now developing sustainable wine production and has its own line of wines.
❤️ I am already so impressed with what winemakers are doing here!

☀️ We traveled back to Santiago and finish the day with dinner and a few cocktails. Salud!

First red press of the vintage for Ricochet. Couldn’t do it without my volunteer legs. The squad had never seen pomace from a pressing. Got all that good hooch into a vessel to settle for 24-48 hours...and then put to bed in a barrel for the long haul. Love these peeps. They lift me up in hard times. I buy them lunch. It’s a good deal. 😝

I need to give a shout out or my little crew. I don’t make much wine, but without their help I wouldn’t be making ANY wine this year. Thank you Ricochet Squad. I’m limitlessly grateful for your individual energy and collective sense of collaboration and camaraderie. Wine is about Community. Ricochet strives to engage with the Community. YOU exude “Community.”

Up next on our Willamette Valley guide is McMinnville and Dundee Hills. These areas are a great spot to situate yourself as they are relatively central and provide restaurants and bars within walking distance.
