Before you're online alone, get your basics locked down.

I've spent 22 years investigating what happens when personal details end up in the wrong hands. Name, school, address, all of it can be used for grooming or identity theft.

It's not just strangers either. It's your privacy settings, who can message you, who can see your posts.

Lock it down. Only accept people you actually know. And know it's always okay to say no.

Check in with your child regularly. Not a one-off talk, an ongoing conversation.

“You can do hard things. I believe in you.”

That’s the line Violeta Gordeljevic, parenting science expert, wishes every mum could hear on repeat, and it’s just one of so many moments from this week’s episode.

Violeta was born in Bosnia, raised in Germany, and now lives in Indonesia raising her own two kids across four languages.

She spent years working in public health before building The Parenting Class from scratch, now trusted by over 330,000 people for one thing, actual evidence instead of vibes and assumptions.

We got into little Violeta, the shy, sensitive kid who grew into the teenager questioning her mum’s old wives’ tales and never stopped.

Parents aren’t failing. Many are being overloaded by a system that is difficult to access.

A newly released Australian Parenting Today analysis found that parents caring for young children with disability experienced:

🧠 23.9% high psychological distress—more than twice the 11% reported by other parents
💔 47.8% loneliness at least some of the time
🩺 37.7% fair or poor physical health
🚪 49.4% wanted to attend parenting programs but could not access them

These families were already actively seeking help from health professionals, educators and GPs. The main barriers were often timing, cost, caregiving demands, exhaustion and poor system fit—not lack of motivation.

The survey did not measure brain biomarkers, but wider caregiver-stress research suggests that repeated uncertainty, poor sleep and emotional vigilance may contribute to:

• HPA-axis and cortisol disruption
• increased amygdala threat monitoring
• reduced prefrontal capacity for planning and emotional regulation
• fatigue, memory difficulties and allostatic load

Support must therefore be biological, psychological, social and environmental:

🌙 protect sleep and use micro-rest breaks
🫁 practise slow breathing and nervous-system resets
💛 reduce perfectionism and parenting guilt
📝 offload tasks into simple routines and checklists
🤝 build peer support and shared-care plans
🏠 provide flexible respite, child-minding and coordinated services

Supporting the parent is part of supporting the child. Families need practical care—not criticism.

The baby feeding scandal that changed history.

For decades, Nestlé’s infant formula marketing became the center of one of the world’s biggest public health controversies.

A landmark study estimated that these marketing practices contributed to 10.87 million excess infant deaths between 1960 and 2015, especially in communities without access to clean water.

This is not about shaming formula. Formula saves lives when it’s needed. The issue was unethical marketing that influenced vulnerable families and undermined breastfeeding without safe alternatives.

This controversy led to the WHO International Code on the Marketing of Breast milk Substitutes, changing how infant formula can be promoted around the world.

Every parent deserves informed choices -not manipulated ones.
