Constant screens are reshaping childhood in ways we’re only beginning to measure.
This is not about blaming kids.
It’s about understanding the system shaping them.

Whether you call it brainrot or not, the data suggests that instead of outperforming previous generations, kids today are getting dumber. What does this mean for society?

I’ll be breaking down the key aspects of this shift in the coming days and weeks. Follow @violeta.parenting.science so you don’t miss it.

This 1965 film shows how infants from secure homes engage with the world - while those raised without emotional care often withdraw, freeze, or search for connection. The difference is heartbreaking.

If you enjoy learning from research, historic experiments and ground-breaking insights in child development, follow @violeta.parenting.science and comment SCIENCE for a link to The Science of Parenting Babies where I cover attachment, parenting styles, temperament and so much more in depth!

None of this requires much extra effort from already tired and busy parents; rather it’s about being intentional. Having a plan to follow rather than wondering every day how to fill wake windows.

The Baby Toolbox is for parents of babies between 12-24 months.

A complete 26-week system designed to help you support your baby’s brain, language, emotional, and cognitive development through simple everyday interaction and play.

Every of the 26 weeks includes:
🧠 a developmental focus
🗣️ vocabulary & concepts to highlight
📄 4 printable visual sheets
📚 a book suggestion
🎵 music recommendation
🧸 toy suggestion
❤️ simple connection-based activities

Instead of endlessly searching online for ideas, you now have a guided, science-backed weekly plan you can actually follow in real life. For 26 weeks!!!!

Designed especially for roughly 16–24 months, but many activities can absolutely be adapted earlier depending on your baby.

I poured so much thought, research, and love into this and I genuinely cannot wait to see your little ones grow with it 🥹

Last 24h for 30% off The Science of Raising Multilingual Kids!!
Leave „speak“ below for a link.

Many kids understand their parent´s language but speaking it actively is a whole different story and requires a different approach. We need to be consistent in our expectations towards them and it´s extra hard when you are the only one speaking the language you are trying to teach.
This video shows just how strong the association between me and Serbian was for my boy when he was younger. It was genuinely weird for him to hear me address him in English.

It´s because I was 100% strict with how I spoke to him and how I expected him to respond. Over the years this dynamic changed and it´s more flexible today with him at time preferring English.

What really helped me was being clear on my goal. I didn´t just want my kids to understand my mother tongue. I wanted them to actively be able to speak it. And that won´t happen if I don´t make them speak it today and every day.

The Science of Multilingualism can help you set goals, pick a research based method and know how to trouble shoot.

I get messages from teachers all the time from more than a dozen countries, and they all say a version of the same thing.

Within a month of school starting, it’s clear which children arrived with rich language around them, with practice at holding their attention, with experience of other kids, and with a sense of their own boundaries. And it’s just as clear which ones didn’t.

And in a school setting with 20+ kids around, once a child is behind, it’s incredibly difficult to bring them up to average, let alone to reach their own full potential. Young children need one-to-one time, and one adult to twenty simply can’t give it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

At home, you can. ❤️Fifteen to twenty focused minutes of intentional language and activity a day is enough. 🧠

If you need some help knowing what to do, check Little Minds Toolbox. Every Monday I send parents 3 ready-to-use activities designed to stretch a child rather than just keep them busy: brain games, early math, reading, language, logic, memory and communication.

Leave „toolbox“ ❤️🧠

There are many ways to make bilingualism (or more languages) work, but these are the four most common approaches. They all come with their pros and cons.
I speak 5 languages myself and I am raising multilingual kids. I have been through many of the challenges and know exactly why problems arise how to overcome them.

I have also gone through all the research to understand what makes some families more successful than others.

All my insights, research summarised, my VOICE method for exposure and over 60+ activities to strengthen a particular language in your home can be found inside The Science of Raising Multilingual Kids. Currently 30% off until Saturday (another 48h)!

I love this age because you can see the effects of a enriching environment shortly after implementing it.

Here are 3 things to focus on:

🗣️1. Be intentional about vocabulary
Some children hear dramatically more language than others in the early years and those differences add up.
So don’t wait for useful words to come up by chance. Choose concepts you want to bring into your baby’s world and weave them into everyday life: up/down, open/closed, fast/slow, empty/full, inside/outside. Categories, too!!

2. 📖Choose the right books for their age and abilities
Some young toddlers love books whilst others rush through them. The difference is often in the books you chose! Avoid abstract imagery and instead use books with real people, real objects, real animals are what will expand their mind and get them passionate about reading.
Point, name, pause and let them find things in the home. (I‘ll send you my fav books!!!)

3. 😀FACES FACES FACES
Imitate expressions, name them and compare them: happy, sad, angry, surprised, shy. Babies spend a huge amount of time watching other people to understand what is happening around them. Helping them notice and distinguish emotions gives them more tools to make sense of the social world.

It’s about knowing what to intentionally introduce during normal play, meals, walks and reading.

🧠❤️And I already prepped 26 weeks of intentional vocabulary, books, activities and toys for you inside the Baby Toolbox.

Comment BOX and I’ll send you the link. plus my fav books inside my free How to Read to Babies Guide
