The technologies powering electric vehicles, electronics and clean energy all depend on critical minerals. This summer, Anish Dhal (VIPER'29) is taking on the challenge of finding more sustainable ways to extract them.

Working in the Shu Yang Lab, Anish is synthesizing Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), highly porous materials that could help make rare-earth extraction more efficient and environmentally sustainable.

"Developing novel methods of extraction is of utmost necessity to ensure the growth of technology in a sustainable way," says Anish.

As a student in @viperatpenn, Anish is combining materials science and mathematics to tackle one of the biggest challenges in the future of energy and advanced technology.
