Still gives me a thrill when I see @virginiaciderbook in the wild! Love the team @sagebirdciderworks and all they invest into cider culture, and for their incredible vibe and marketing, AND for their insane single origin & cider blends. THANK YOU Amberlee & Zach!

Virginia Festival of the Book teamed up with @virginiacider earlier this month for a day long celebration of history, culture, folk ways, learning, and cider. I was happy to share a panel with Alistair Reece and Greg Hansard who have written so eloquently about the history of apples and cider in Virginia. Patti Miller of Virginia Humanities curated our conversation on a stunning fall day at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton. Kids eating apples, @chuckflynt digging into the best cider donuts ever, a fat happy pig...and many pours of apple-forward cider from cideries like @daring_wine_company @albciderworks @cidersfrommars @big_fish_cider And a visit to @visitstaunton is not complete without a stop at @reunion_bakery for a wake-up coffee and at least a croissant. @virginiaciderbook @virginiacider @frontierculturemuseum @va_humanities #vacider This was also a warm up for Virginia Cider Week is coming up...stay tuned!

Join me this Saturday, November 8, in one of my favorite Virginia small towns for a celebration of apples, history and books in a day of activities all headlined by cider. I’ll chat with authors Alistair Reece and Greg Hansard in a conversation curated by Patti Miller of @encyclopediavirginia I’m sure I’ll taste much cider and I’ll explore the exhibits at the Frontier Culture Museum, which I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never visited. I hope to hug Nikki from @cidersfrommars, the Sheltons from @albciderworks, my buddies from @bluebeecider and many more @virginiacider producers. Don’t miss this chance to learn…and imbibe! @virginiaciderbook @frontierculturemuseum

Had the amazing opportunity to attend a grafting workshop @albciderworks this morning… Bill & Anne are incredibly kind and generous teachers, but grafting workshops are thirsty work! So refreshing myself with a glass of the single varietal Albemarle Pippin before the long journey home… 🥵
