Fabulous evening at the @mushensentertainment summer party at the Groucho Club! I somehow managed to take no pictures all night, but the gif booth had us covered.

✍️📚 The 2026 Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize ceremony on 21 May was a very special evening.

It was heartwarming to witness the moment @annaholdhaz received the Prize for her novel-in-progress, “A Geography of Escape”, meet our shortlisted authors, and reunite with shortlisted authors from previous years.

This year’s judging panel was chaired by broadcaster and writer @voguewilliams and included novelist @ela__lee, Viking Publishing Director @harriettalks, College Assistant Professor and Director of Studies in English Dr Clare Walker Gore, and Emeritus Fellow Dr @isobel_maddison.

Vogue delivered thoughtful comments on each of the shortlisted pieces, leading up to the final announcement.

Interested in submitting your work? The Prize will return for 2027, opening for submissions on 19 October 2026!

Wonderful day @womensprize with @virginiahallwrites enjoying patches of sunshine with lashings of whip smart literary debate at the various panels. Have I now purchased six new books? Yes. Do I regret it? Not on your nelly.

I was extremely fortunate to be shortlisted for the @lcfictionprize for my novel, MRS WEBSTER, and I had such a lovely time at the prize ceremony last week. It's about a difficult marriage in the art scene of sixties London, so I get to put a lot of my favourite things in it: jazz, modern art, vintage fashion, women having a good natter, ridiculous postwar English cooking, dream symbolism, tiny flats, second wave feminism and (as the judges noted) some shout outs to Derbyshire.

I was so nervous I failed to take any pictures on the night but it was so exciting to meet the other authors & hear about their work! Everyone was so kind and enthusiastic. This book means more to me than I can explain in an Instagram caption and I'm so grateful to everyone who arranged and judged the competition at @lucycavendishcollege and @wmebooks.

Elaborate never fails to offer a shift in perspective, a slightly new angle to view the world through. In this edition, @ela__lee talks about feeling good for helping, but sometimes like you don’t do enough… I just wanted to remind her, and all the judges @isobel_maddison @voguewilliams @lcfictionprize @wmebooks that having my work considered by you all feels seismic. Giving your precious time to offer the unknown a sliver of opportunity is super generous. And much appreciated! And this kind of gift does change lives.
