One of my BIGGEST pet peeves is when people tell me how pretty I am 🤯 Of course I absolutely know they mean well and are being kind but let me explain:

Being adopted into a family I look nothing alike, I always stood out. People always raved about and boys always flocked to my sisters. The skinny blonde haired blue eyed bomb shells. I don’t know how many times I was used to get to my sister and/or adorable cute friends. For sake of space on this post, I’ll just give you one example: A family member came to me and said, “ (friends name) says if you were to lose weight, you would hands down be the prettiest girl in our family.” I know this comment was meant to encourage me to lose weight but you can probably see how all I heard is, “You’re weight is the reason you aren’t pretty.” Or “You’re not the pretty one in the family.”

At some point I learned image sucks. Who CARES what people look like or the size of their body! How about if they’re kind. How about if they’re a good friend. How about how they show up for loved ones or even more so, strangers! How about if they do good in the world. Or my favorite, if they’re confident as is. Is that “pretty?”

Enter the short chapter of my life with birth parents. They suck. Both of them. Just honest to goodness, terrible human beings. (Scroll for the most recent example- messages my birth mom sent me the other day from one of her many alias accounts) When people comment on how I look- I feel icky and annoyed. (It’s fine! I know you mean well) But, how I look is just credit to two people that had sex and produced a human. Whoopee.

Want to join me in putting an emphasis on people for WHO they are and not what they look like? The irony that I run a make up business 🤣 But know that for me it has always been to prove that you don’t have to look a certain way to have success in the beauty industry. You can show up as you are, look however you want, be kind, work hard, take care of others and… make it to the top!

I did it. I did it for all of us that don’t fit the mold 😄

K, thanks for letting me blab. Love you friends 😘
