OHIO commercial photography professor Gary Kirksey, '82, recently received the Legacy Award for Lifetime Achievement from the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). 🏆

Kirksey received the award at the 2026 NABJ Convention in Atlanta in August. He was recognized for his career in visual journalism and extensive education of young visual journalists. 📸

“The number of students that I have helped recruit and then helped educate while they were in school, and now these alumni are not only journalists but also leaders within the journalism field, makes me extremely proud.”

Through our School of Visual Communication, our new Sports Photography for Communication Certificate is launching this fall. 📷

The 21-credit-hour program will include hands-on instruction and professional perspectives and is designed to prepare students for careers in sports photojournalism, team and event photography, athletic communications, sports marketing and branding, video storytelling and more.

Applications to the certificate program are open to any major and require an interview with a @viscomohiou photojournalism instructor.

Where will you Summerfest? - Social Media Campaign for @sierranevada

I had a lot of fun with this project and loved Sierra Nevada as a client, producing graphics in my @viscomohiou class for them was definitely a highlight of my semester! I really tried to focus on the fact that you really could enjoy any beer this summer, but what parts of Summerfest make it the OBVIOUS choice?

Presenting "Fine Line" Magazine! This is a glassware magazine concept I designed in collaboration with @natalienyyan.photo 's excellent photos! I always love a good collab and this one worked out so fine!

There's a fine line between tribute and tradition when it comes down to how Gen Z is hitting the bars! Using antiquated objects and items in new ways is so trendy, with nostalgia playing a part in that for sure. But when a trend becomes the norm, was it ever a trend or more of a cultural necessity? I don't know but lights up bro.
