To our graduating students…

Some advice and wisdom from Assistant Professor of Visual Communication & Undergraduate Director, Catherine Penrod, in the School of Visual Communication.

You don’t need a perfect plan—just a direction. Build your path through curiosity, connection, and a willingness to grow. Trust your skills, stay open to change, and remember you’re not behind… you’re just beginning.

To our incoming students…

Some advice and wisdom from Assistant Professor of Visual Communication & Undergraduate Director, Catherine Penrod, in the School of Visual Communication.

You don’t have to have it all figured out—just show up, stay curious, and say yes to new experiences. Growth lives in the uncomfortable moments and asking for help is part of the process. Take care of yourself, trust that you belong here, and let this be the beginning of who you’re becoming.

Every frame starts with a question:
How do we make this story stronger?

That’s the mindset we shared with Ohio University students during our recent immersive studio workshop, diving into the real process behind commercial photography, from creative direction to final capture. 📸

Because great images aren’t just taken.
They’re built.
