OFFICIAL SELECTION! @tinffestival 🇳🇬 🇯🇲 🇨🇦 🔥🔥🔥

Canada has one of the largest Jamaican diaspora communities in the world and has made a huge impact through culture, language, food, music and now film.

We are excited to be an official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival, A Canadian Screen Award qualifying festival! With many Jamaicans tracing their lineage to West African countries like Nigeria, this festival selection is truly one that helps to expand our ability to ‘Stitch the fabric of a Nation.’ 🇳🇬 🇯🇲 🇨🇦

Threads Of Us is a Jamaican Love Story set against the backdrop of Jamaica’s Independence Day celebrations, following two young people as they navigate work, life and their own independence on an island still navigating its colonial history.

Starring Jamaican-Canadian actor @shomaridowner and Actress/ singer @callmesevana alongside comedy legend @blakkaellis @trillamilla_scandalbagent and Grammy award winning producer @visionthewriter in his acting debut.

Directed by: Mykal Cushnie
Written/ Produced by Donisha Prendergast
Exec Producers: Kady Campbell-Edwards, Peter Prendergast, Horane Henry.

This is how we reclaim our stories, by telling them.

“We are not our circumstances. We were made to live, to laugh and to love.” - Threads of Us

@threadsofusfilm recently made a pass through Boston, Mass on Jamaica’s Independence Day to share time and space! And we had an amazing, emotional, powerful gathering!

This feature length film is a story about everyday people trying to navigate the cascading circumstances that life sometimes throws at you while you pursue your dreams. A cultural memory planting seeds for conversations about the future. 🇯🇲

Audiences had some really insightful questions and comments to share about their own experience living in the Diaspora. We are grateful and excited to be on the road, bringing the film directly into the community!

Special Thanks to all our local community partners @jamaicanassociationofma @dsniorg @caribbeaninboston @sorrelandlime @brochris4boston @voteworrell

We might just pop up in your city! Follow the movement!
We are stitching the fabric of a Nation ❤️

Audiences were fully engaged and ready to share feedback after Essence Festival! The love, interest and invitation and messages we’ve received since our screening have meant more than words can express ❤️

To everyone asking, “When are you coming to our city?” … we’re listening.

We’re already planning a U.S. Diaspora Tour to bring Threads of Us directly to Caribbean communities across the country. Because these stories deserve to be experienced together.

We are so grateful for all the cast, crew, interns and local partners who helped to manifest this film from a Vision to Reality.✨

We are using film to stitch the fabric of a Nation!
Stay tuned! Your city might be next. 🇯🇲🎬✨
