For the fourth autumn in a row, I gather our summer-harvested reishi mushroom and kelp collectings to brew a potent infusion for our winter skin needs. The process begins with an oil extraction of the two botanicals in lightweight, organic jojoba and moringa oils. The next step is emulsifying this brew with organic cocoa and shea butters, lacing the liquid with a precious blend of seven essential oils - all done by hand in a cold water bath. My intention is for the scent and experience to bring you a sense of peace, especially if it’s the only moment you reserve just for yourself that day. Melt the balm in your fingers, glide it onto your skin and feel the extra protection through the dry winter wood stove months. The dewy glowing skin is such a nice bonus for taking back a little time for yourself this season. 🌊🤍 - Elizabeth

This #FellowFriday meet Peeta Arenas, one of our 2026 OASIS interns who did just that!

An Ecological Engineering student at Oregon State University, Peeta spent her summer working with the City of Yachats to tackle marine debris before it could reach the coast.

From sorting through trash at local events to tracking single-use plastics, Peeta’s work helped identify opportunities to reduce waste and make the switch from disposable to reusable products easier for the community. ♻️

DEVILS CHURN LOOP Cape Perpetua Scenic Area near Yachats Oregon officially known as the Devils Churn Trail of the Restless Waters and Captain Cook Loop is a popular scenic 1.8 mile trail in the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area. This route gives you an incredible look at a deep volcanic chasm where Pacific Ocean waves funnel and crash against dark basalt rocks creating dramatic sprays and thick sea foam.
Trail Overview and Key Stats:
🌊Distance 1.8 miles 2.9 km loop
🌊Time to Complete Average 49 minutes
🌊Difficulty Easy to moderate
🌊Elevation Gain 282 feet
🌊Best Time to Visit Year round but high tide gives you the most thunderous churning action
🌊Trail of the Restless Waters Short paved 0.4 mile section with boardwalk that winds down through sculpted spruce trees to the edge of the chasm!
🌊The Churn 80 foot wide volcanic fissure likely a collapsed lava tube where ocean swells smash into rock cliffs and cascade back down!
🌊Captain Cook Loop and Tide Pools Extending to the Captain Cook section leads to coastal tide pools and views of the Spouting Horn an ocean powered blowhole

YAQUINA BAY LIGHTHOUSE : The Haunted One 👻💡The little lighthouse everyone misses. Tucked inside Yaquina Bay State Park, Newport. Built in 1871, and decommissioned just 3 years later, making it the shortest-lived lighthouse in Oregon. Now it’s the LAST remaining wooden lighthouse in Oregon.
Is it haunted? Locals say YES.
The views though:
Climb up and look out the lantern room windows : full 180° of Yaquina Bay, the Bay Bridge, the jetties, and the ocean. Perfect window-frame photo.
Then go see the big sister:
📍 Yaquina Head Lighthouse: 3 miles north. 93 ft tall, Oregon’s tallest lighthouse, still active since 1873. The ICONIC one on all the postcards. Do Bay (haunted + views) then Head (epic + cliffs + seals).

YACHATS 804 TRAIL 🌊 : The Easy Ocean Walk Everyone Loves
- START SOUTH (Yachats State Rec Area):Right in town at south end of Ocean View Dr. Best if you want coffee/food first. Scenic overlook to start.
- START MID (Smelt Sands State Rec Site):Most popular. Biggest lot + restrooms. Jump on right in the middle.
- START NORTH:Park and walk south. Stairs down to the big sandy beach at the end watch for sneaker waves.
Trail main points:
- 1.3 to 1.9 miles, totally flat, paved & dirt mix, easy for all ages
- Follows ancient Alsea route + old County Road 804
- Views the whole way: rocky bluffs, hidden tide pools, seals & whales
- Ends where bluffs drop to 7 mile sandy beach
Why called 804:
- County Road 804 = 8.04 miles from Yachats to Waldport
- Was the main road before Hwy 101
