Somewhere in the middle of the Arizona desert, there’s a rock formation that looks like it was drawn by hand.

The Nautilus is one of those places that makes you stop and wonder how something this strange was formed naturally. No big hike, no crowds when we went, just a short walk into this little pocket of white sandstone.

And honestly, it felt like finding something that wasn’t supposed to be there.

Utah really has places that don’t look real… 🤯🏜️

📍 Kanab Sand Caves (Moqui Sand Caves)

Here’s what to know before you go:

🥾 Distance: About 1.2 miles round trip from the designated parking area. Plan roughly 45–60 minutes, longer if you’re taking photos or exploring the caves. (Where Are Those Morgans)

🚗 Parking: Use the designated Sand Caves parking lot off Highway 89, about 5 miles north of Kanab near the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary turnoff. Don’t use the old parking area across Highway 89. (noahawaii)

👟 Shoes: Wear hiking shoes with GOOD traction. The final approach requires scrambling up steep slickrock, and loose sand on the sandstone can make it surprisingly slippery. (Utah’s Adventure Family)

⚠️ The hike is short, but don’t underestimate the scramble. There are also exposed areas and drop-offs around the cave openings.

And once you make it inside… THAT VIEW. 😳
