CAPTIVATED - alone at altitude - After a brutal climb up to Blue Lake on Mount Tongariro, with a full kit of camera gear, I settled in for late afternoon and evening photography - the afternoon was kind (some images in later posts) and the evening was even better - with a magical Aurora displaying in the clear alpine skies from early evening onwards (hence the glow on the horizon to the south - practically no colour change in post processing of this Aurora - these colours are as the camera sensor picked up the Aurora). This image was taken at 10pm on a perfectly calm October evening near, and slightly elevated, from the Tongariro Crossing Track. The stars were sensational, and the Milky Way competed with the Aurora all evening. In the middle foreground of this image plumes of steam are visible from the Emerald Lakes. I finally stopped taking images about 10.45pm and descended to the Ketetahi Carpark in rapidly declining temperatures arriving back at the carpark at 2am with seriously wobbly legs and a good coating of frost covering my camera back pack - A memorable night!! #astrophotography #nightphotography #auroraaustralis #southernlights #pinkaurora #milkyway #tongariro #tongarironationalpark #mountngauruhoe #mountruapehu #bluelake #tongariroalpinecrossing #newzealand #aotearoa #purenewzealand #newzealandphotography #nzastrophotography #nzaurora #nightsky #starrynight #landscapephotography #nightscape #volcano #darkskyphotography #milkywayphotography #auroraphotography #lovenz #nzmustdo #exploreNZ #kevinprincephotography

Clear air below the clouds yesterday morning meant another great view of the 'local' volcano, Mount Ruapehu, which is over 180 km away!

Lenslife Weekend trip to Tongariro National Park.

Chasing the light at Tongariro National Park! 🏔️✨

Spent an unforgettable weekend with the talented @lenslifecommunity crew. From capturing the first glow of sunrise to freezing the night sky during our astro sessions, the creative energy was unmatched.

Here are just a few of my favorite frames from an incredible trip. Which one stands out to you? 👇
