Jemadar Prakash Singh Chib, Victoria Cross
A Dogra legend of unmatched valour

Born in Chibe-Chak, Jammu, Jemadar Prakash Singh Chib (1913–1945) embodied the fearless Dogra warrior spirit. Serving with the 14th Battalion, 13th Frontier Force Rifles in WWII, he displayed extraordinary courage during the night battle of 16–17 February 1945 at Kanlan Ywathit, Burma.

Severely wounded multiple times, he refused evacuation, led his men by crawling from trench to trench, and fought on till his last breath, raising the Dogra war cry “Jawala Mata Ki Jai!” His heroism inspired his company to repel a fierce Japanese assault.

For his supreme bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, becoming the first and only VC recipient from Jammu & Kashmir. A true son of Dogra land, his legacy of sacrifice and courage lives on forever. 🇮🇳
