VOLCANDRA — SET IV OF IV 🖤💀🤘🏻

One final descent into darkness! 🔥

Closing out my Volcandra collection from Dominion Tavern in Ottawa, Canada, with a little old-school grit and vintage atmosphere!

These Melodic Black/Death Metal monsters from Louisville, Kentucky, brought some serious intensity to the stage, and this final set captures it with a darker, weathered edge. 💀📸

Four sets of pure metal madness, and what a killer performance to photograph!

That's a wrap on Volcandra! Stay brutal! 🤘🏻🖤

@volcandra dropped Beyond The Will Of Mortals in April this year. I’ve listened to this album a number of times and find something new each time I listen to it.

It’s been really cool watching these dudes evolve as bands do. Their sound is cohesive and they’re super rad dudes. I love seeing them do their thing.

VOLCANDRA — SET III OF IV 🖤💀🤘🏻

Turning down the color, but definitely not the intensity. 🔥

Heading back to Ottawa, Canada, for another round of Volcandra, bringing their Melodic Black/Death Metal straight out of Louisville, Kentucky!

After the rainbow madness of Set II, I decided to pull back the saturation and let the darker tones take over. Muted colors, deeper shadows, and just enough detail to give these shots a whole different atmosphere. 🖤📸

There's something about this darker editing style that fits these guys so damn well, and I'm loving how this set came together!

Three sets down, one more to go! Enjoy! 🤘🏻💀

VOLCANDRA — SET II OF IV 🌈💀🤘🏻

Who says Blackened Death Metal can't be colorful?! 😂🔥

Taking it back to Ottawa, Canada, for another round of Volcandra, bringing their Melodic Black/Death Metal all the way from Louisville, Kentucky!

Set I was all darkness and shadows, but for round two? I went absolutely WILD with the saturation. 🌈📸

Bold colors, rainbow lighting, and a whole lot of beautiful chaos. These shots are loud AF, and honestly… I'm fucking loving every bit of it! 😂🤘🏻

Two sets down, two more to go! Enjoy the colorful madness! 🖤🔥

VOLCANDRA — SET I OF IV 🖤💀

A little darkness from the Great White North… courtesy of Kentucky. 🇨🇦🤘🏻

Taking it back to Ottawa, Canada, with Volcandra, bringing their Melodic Black/Death Metal all the way from Louisville, Kentucky!

For this first set, I decided to strip away the color and let the shadows, contrast, and raw atmosphere take center stage. There's just something about black & white photography that fits the darker side of metal so damn well. 🖤📸

And apparently I couldn't get enough of these guys behind the lens, because I've got FOUR sets to share! 😂

Set I of IV. Let the darkness begin. 💀🤘🏻

Unfortunately could not get any shots of Antichrist Siege Machine (maybe one day). The crowd was too thick for a prime opportunity.

Volcandra - TALLON IV (2022)

SPOTIFY & YOUTUBE

“Tallon IV” is a melodic black/death metal single released on May 19, 2022, by the Louisville, Kentucky-based metal band Volcandra.
The song served as the lead advance single and opening track for their debut extended play on Prosthetic Records, titled Border World, which officially dropped on June 24, 2022. The song stands out for its high-energy mix of technical riffing, blast beats, and distinct science-fiction storytelling.
Disinterested in traditional, darker black metal tropes, Volcandra uses their platform for cosmic fantasy and world-building. Vocalist Dave Palenske revealed that the track was heavily inspired by the classic Nintendo video game Metroid Prime, which he spent hours playing during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Lyrically and structurally, the song is designed to mirror a high-octane adventure tracking the harrowing journey of the bounty hunter Samus Aran as she traverses hazardous, deadly terrain.
