A memorable Saturday morning in Chicago 🫖🍂🤎

Two Fires: An Oolong Study with @volitionteaco shares the importance of traceability, sustainability and fairness in tea production and the differences that soil, time of year, oxidation and roasting techniques have on single origin teas.

I left with a refreshed appreciation for the intention and care that drives our daily tea practices.

Thank you @volitionteaco, @marthamae.beautifulthings and @orderandexperimentation 🤎

We are all rooting for @kehuyquan! His story of resilience and hope will move you to tears, it will connect you with humanity, and it will encourage you to treat yourself with more kindness.

Fun fact - Ke had never stepped foot in St. Louis until this week, and I’m not sure his team would’ve put a tour stop in had it not been for the incredible heart of Carrie Robb and Kristen Sorth at @stlouiscountylibrary. The @theveryasianfoundation was proud to support!

Our May Book Project Chair @drgracelee1008 also coordinated a school visit at @micds_official where the students buzzed about his roles in Loki and Zootopia. Hundreds of students watched as their peers asked poignant questions about Ke’s take on the American Dream and the pressure to succeed.

People drove down from places like Chicago, they sent gifts, they shared their own stories of survival, and they loved sharing the joy of life! Ke and his wife Echo exude joy and gratitude. And we thank Lauren from his team for making it special!

October 1 is KE HUY QUAN Day in St. Louis County! Thank you for letting at least 1500 readers celebrate the day in person.

Thank you, Ke, Echo, and Lauren! And thank you, St. Louis!

Make space and see what follows ✨

I couldn’t imagine all the possibilities would come from moving into my first studio. As I’m sifting through all the memories over the past couple of years I’m feeling grateful for all the art, collaborations and friends who have made the studio so special.

Here’s to trusting your gut, following your instincts and new beginnings ☀️

VOLITION TEA X WHAT MARGIE MADE

Tea lovers, did you know that The Center of Order and Experimentation now carries Volition Tea?

Volition Tea is a Chicago-based tea company sourcing exceptional loose leaf teas from small producers in China and thoughtfully grown herbals from farms in the United States. They believe every great cup begins with the people who cultivate, harvest, and craft it. Through direct relationships and visits to origin, they seek to understand not only how their teas are made, but the stories, traditions, and communities behind them.

Annie Xiang, founder of Volition Tea, will set up a tea tasting station in the shop on October 3rd. Taste an array of teas including whites, reds, greens, blacks, oolongs, and herbals. This is a wonderful way to fall in love with the beautiful teas, learn about their harvest, and try many flavor profiles.

Volition Tea is collaborating with What Margie Made on an exclusive menu of tea-inspired pastries that you can purchase during the tasting. We are looking forward to a day of tea!

AN EDUCATION IN TOUCH 🤲🏽

The fall equinox is a useful point to notice what has changed before deciding what the next season asks of you. @paulabui brings that question into the body.

For two hours, traditional Thai bodywork becomes a way to pay attention through pressure, movement and another person’s hands. You learn where the body gives, where it resists, and how differently it can feel after being worked with instead of ignored.

A fitting way to enter fall: know the body you’re bringing with you.

Slow down. Sip. Let the tea tell you its story🌿

Gongfu Cha is a traditional Chinese method of preparing tea that invites us to set distractions aside, engage our senses, and discover how each infusion reveals something new. Together, we’ll explore four exceptional Chinese teas—from white and green to oolong and red—while learning about the stories, traditions, and farmers behind them. Annie Xiang, the founder of Volition Tea Company @volitionteaco, will guide us.

Beyond brewing, tea is a way of gathering. A reason to pause and connect. Link in bio to book.
