In a space where tea purveyors are constantly on the lookout for new producers and new regions, we prioritize on building upon existing working and personal relationships with our tea farmers and producers, and sourcing new and exciting teas from them.

Five years called for a celebration, but we also wanted to make room for stillness.

Tea asks us to slow down. To bring our minds into our senses, notice what unfolds beyond aroma and taste, and be fully present with what’s in our cup. For our A Year in White sensory tables, we wanted to invite guests to do just that - and to ask themselves: which season are you most drawn to?

Watching people pause between conversations, food, and mahjong to close their eyes, tune in, and discover the nuances of each tea was such a beautiful thing to witness.

Still feeling the love from Thursday night. 🤍

From community bingo and mahjong to the tea sensory tables, every corner of the evening held something different to discover, experience, and share. It was a little bit of everything we love about this community, all coming together under one roof.

After three years in the making, we’re ready to share 🪷A Year in White 🪷.

Created with our longtime white tea producer, Huang Hai Qiang, this collection follows one cultivar from one tea garden through all four seasons - Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

The leaves are different. The conditions are different. And each season asks something different of the maker.

What emerges is four distinct expressions of white tea, each shaped by the character of its season and Huang’s remarkable ability to work with what the garden gives him.

Four seasons. One garden. One cultivar. One producer.

And, fittingly, a collection we made to celebrate five years of Volition Tea.

A Year in White launches tomorrow, October 1 at 10am CST.

Sometimes I describe oolong tea as the state of California.

We have a certain image of what California looks like and feels like, but the reality is as diverse as it can be. There are magnificent mountain ranges, tranquil coastlines, deserts and lush valleys. It can be warm and sunny, rainy and chilly. Range is the name of the game.

So it is with oolong.

In this workshop, we’ll take two teas sitting at opposite ends of that range - Golden TGY, a light-roast oolong, and First Blush, a high-fire oolong - and explore how cultivar, oxidation, temperature and roasting shape each tea. But we’ll also peel back the curtain on something less tangible: how each maker’s philosophy and way of seeing tea ultimately determined the path these leaves took to become the stunning liquids in your cup.

A small, intimate experience for just 10 guests, with plenty of time to taste, observe, ask questions and engage all of your senses. You’ll leave with a tube of your preferred oolong and the handmade cup you’ve used throughout the workshop.
