30 years ago today, I met my person—the one who has been by my side through every adventure and every challenge. $I am from Los Angeles. Born in Harbor City, raised in a little town called Lawndale. At some point I stopped calling that place home but this past week has made it so that home fits in my mouth in a different way once again. I have struggled alot lately. Years of isolation and disconnection have made me feel incredibly depressed and lonely. The antidote to this painful loneliness is mending the fractures, healing the wounds and nurturing connections new and old. Thank you to our powerful ancestor (the incomparable @yolandalopez8) whose show @thecheechcenter served as a catalyst for me to go back home. To reconnect with people I haven’t seen for…30, 20, 15 years and to meet those in the flesh whose presence only existed in emails and in the tiny illuminated screen of my phone. People have always been the balm for any pain in my life. Somewhere along the way I forgot that. “Many of us learn as children that friendship should never be seen as just as important as family ties.
