Thanks @wnyc @newsounds for posting and sharing this! 🙏❤️
“Hear a piece from the opera, An American Soldier by Chinese-American composer Huang Ruo, whose libretto was written by David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly and Yellow Face). The opera is based on the true story of Chinese-American Army Pvt. Danny Chen, who was found dead in a guard tower at his base in Afghanistan in 2011. He had been mercilessly hazed and abused by his fellow soldiers, and took his own life. Listen to the “Moon Duet”, in a recording by the American Composer’s Orchestra from the 2024 PAC NYC.”

A little throwback to a magical night at the opera.
A few months ago, Wilshire Boulevard Temple partnered with the @lajewishsymphony for an unforgettable evening of music and community.

Wondering where the 2026 Lenya Competition Finalists will compete? Think red velvet seats, an ornate ceiling, carved wooden embellishments, and a lamp-adorned, spacious stage...✨

Opened in 1922 on the campus of @urochester, the 444-seat Kilbourn Hall is three stories high and decorated in the Venetian Renaissance style. Its elegance, pure acoustics, and excellent sight lines make it considered by many to be one of the finest chamber music halls in the world (source: events.rochester.edu). When Teresa Stratas judged the first Lenya Competition in 1998, she walked onto the stage of Kilbourn Hall for the first time, took in her surroundings and declared, “It’s magic!”

Lenya Competition has held its Final Round at Kilbourn Hall nearly every year since the establishment of the competition in 1998. 🎭

We look forward to welcoming the 2026 finalists to the stage on Saturday May 9th for the 28th year of the Lotte Lenya Competition! Head to the link in our bio to learn more about Finals day events. ⬆️

222222 much fun singing with the spectacular LA Jewish Symphony @lajewishsymphony last weekend at the historic Wilshire Blvd Temple…my colleague @cantorlisapeicott produced the concert brilliantly—she and I met as 18 year old voice majors at UCLA and we had fun laughing about how little we knew then 🙃…
