Kenny Loggins performing “Whenever I Call You “Friend” at Gotanda Kan-i Hoken Hall in Tokyo, Japan (1992) ♡

The Leap of Faith era really has my heart as I’m currently in the process of taking my own “Leap of Faith” in my personal life. I do not think there is a single performance from this period that I do not love, which is part of the reason I spent so long deciding what performance to start with. They are all so lush and full of emotion! 🍃

One thing that is not mentioned enough is how Kenny would take his older songs and bring new life to them. “Whenever I Call You Friend” is no exception. Originally released on Nightwatch in the late 1970s, it somehow feels like a fresh and fun 90s tune here.

Vicki Randle’s vocals? Immaculate. 👑

The golden hair, the charisma, the ease. Kenny is so intuitive in this performance, yet still charming in a way that works perfectly. He is relaxed, present, and clearly having fun, which makes these moments feel especially special. It is also incredible how his vocal range remained so strong for so many years, making him one of my favorite male vocalists. ♡
