Ok, we need a debrief 👀

We had a blast doing outreach this weekend at both the VT Homecoming Alumni Reception and the Kipps Elementary School Fall Festival!

We’ve also made quite a bit of progress in the lab lately, with more to come as our teams gear up for their first flight tests of the year.

We’d like to congratulate our Hokie Heroes and our flag cadet for the Virginia Tech vs. California game tomorrow!

U.S. Navy Cmdr. Michael May, a 2010 Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus, and U.S. Navy Lt. j.g. William Albertson, a 2023 corps alumnus, are both deployed to the western Pacific theater onboard USS Scranton where May is serving as the executive officer, and Albertson is serving as the electrical assistant.

May earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the College of Engineering in 2011 and later returned to complete a master’s degree in nuclear engineering in 2018 while serving as an active-duty military member of the Naval ROTC staff. Albertson earned his bachelor’s degree in ocean engineering from the College of Engineering in 2024.

Both were members of the the Highty-Tighties and the jazz band of the regiment, The Colonels.

Thank you for your service!

Our flag cadet for Saturday’s game is Cadet Justin Whitley from Mechanicsville, Virginia. Whitley was selected for flag cadet duty for his exceptional leadership and service within Echo Company, where he spearheaded safety education and risk management training for the sophomore class. A member of Army ROTC majoring in political science in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, he also serves on the executive board of Kappa Alpha Order, organizing campus events that embody Hokie spirit. Whitley will travel with the Hokies this weekend to receive the colors as they face the University of California, Berkeley.

Congratulations and well done, Cadet Whitley! Two servicemen stand by a submarine holding a striped VT flag

Meet a #VTEngineering alum! 🤩🦃

A love of fast cars led Craig Keys to a career solving complex problems, and a lifelong mission to open doors for future Hokies. 👏

Today, he's a senior engineer for Caterpillar, working on the drivetrain systems for small wheel loaders, the machines with the big front bucket that are often used to transport dirt and gravel at construction sites.

He loves the career he’s built around off-highway vehicles, all thanks to his childhood Honda and time at Virginia Tech. 🚗🧡 Craig Keys stands in front of a big machine.
