First speaking event since I closed up my shop after 24 years. I was honest about what it takes to build, and what it looks like when you stop but you’re not ready to quit. Made possible by these lovely, kind, supportive, gritty, determined panelists who showed everyone, (me included)

Sometimes you have to start saying you are something before you fully believe it yourself. That was one of the things I found myself talking about last night at UGLY TALK : UNMASKING THE FEMALE POWERHOUSE.

Before BELONG existed, I started telling people I was going to build it. I would go to female founder and networking events, not as a founder, but telling people I was going to become one. I didn’t have the space. I didn’t have all the answers. But I had the idea, and somewhere along the way, saying it out loud helped me start believing it myself.

And then it became one foot in front of the other.

There was something very full circle about sitting inside @belong.nyc last night, in a room filled with women talking honestly about intuition, visibility, self-trust, expansion and all the uncomfortable things that happen internally while we’re building something externally.

We spend so much time thinking confidence comes first. That one day we’ll feel completely ready, and then we’ll make the bold move. My experience has often been the opposite.

Sometimes you make the move. You say the thing out loud. You step into the room as the person you’re becoming. And slowly, you become her.

Thank you @viktoria.cornelius for creating the space for such an honest conversation, @doronfgp and @vuyodarling for sharing your stories and perspectives alongside me, and @ugly.talk for bringing all of us together.

Looking around BELONG last night and seeing the space filled with this kind of openness and connection was pretty special. Turns out, sometimes you have to believe in the thing before there’s anything there to prove you right. 🖤
