3 tips for flying with your service dog for the first time

1) Arrive at least two hours early and check in at the accessibility desk for your airline

2) bring lots of treats, especially for takeoff and landing. Especially crunchy treats to help your dogs’ ears pop during takeoff and landing

3) Ahead of time, practice settling around loud noises, heeling through crowds and neutrality around people/other animals

Not every dog can be a service dog but an excellent service dog can be any shape, size, or breed 🐾

What breed is your service dog? Let me know in the comments, let’s show folks how many different breeds/sizes/origin stories we have in our community.

The partial sploot to half sploot brings me so much joy 🥹

Video description for accessibility; Laika, a golden brown lab mix in a @doodlegeardesigns service dog vest partial sploots then half sploots (sticking her back paw out) while at a doctors appointment with her handler. She then does some heel work and a medical alert boop

Did you know that most service dogs’ medical alerts are trained from scent? We use saliva and sweat samples

Service dogs can be trained to alert to migraine, high/low heart rate, high/low blood pressure, blood sugar fluctuations, epilepsy and more.

Video description for accessibility: Laika, a golden-brown lab mix in a red service dog @doodlegeardesigns vest does two cardiac alerts in the form of a nose boop
