I do realize that I don’t show my face on this app enough. And I apologize for that. To tell you the truth, I simply forget to share my face on here, because I often get too caught up in the business of life. I only rarely take out my phone to record those special moments that are “worth” sharing on here (and maybe the magic behind this whole social media thing is not even about sharing those worthy moments… maybe sharing your daily bowl of cereal is more than enough). I also have a constant feeling of “phone guilt” and neglect my phone more than I utilize it...

So, in case we haven’t met yet… I wanted to say a belated HI FRIEND and NICE TO MEET YOU!! 👋 my name is Franzi. I am 32 years old, have two wonderful children (Emma, 3, and Lucas, 2), and a sweet husband, Matt. We live in a small(ish) city apartment in downtown Munich that has a small balcony and a tiny shared backyard with a sandbox. Together, my family and I have chosen to prioritize a simple and slow life that emphasizes time spent together and outdoors, handwork/ handcrafts, and sustainability. I love to forage for wild foods and always try to include my children in our foraging adventures. Elderberry, mushrooms, nettle, nasturtiums, and dandelions are among my favorite plants and I love nothing more than to make stickbread over an open fire or a pot of fresh rosehip tea.

You do not need 100 acres, chickens, or a dairy cow to start living simply. And that’s why I appreciate what @tanglewood_hollow has done with the Rooted Folk Publication (formerly the Simple Living Collective) SO much! This new format is neither a bundle nor a magazine, but rather a carefully-curated publication filled with resources and recipes to use for years to come. Featured are homesteading articles such as ‘small-scale suburban gardening’, ‘weeds you should actually grow’, ‘4 ways to love stinging nettles’, dandelion coffee/ vinaigrette/ jelly, ‘the versatile chive’, ‘compost Q&A’, ‘building community via trade exchange’, and many many more! This way of life should be be accessible to everyone, no matter where you are.
