I'm super excited to announce that I've been asked to be a contributor for the Wild Family Guide!

Our mission is simple: we hope to help families build a stronger connection with the natural world. We believe in nurturing curiosity. We believe that there are never too many questions. We believe in the itch to explore. We believe in wonder.

For The Wild Family Guide (which is only available through October 25th) I've put together a memory game using photos I took while mushroom hunting with my wife Franzi (@my_seasonal_treasury ). All these photos were taken within a few hundred meters of each other and really help paint a picture of the Bavarian forest floor during the fall months. I'm only one of 60+ creators sharing their skills, everything from learning to craft with leaves, to making real mud play dough, to learning how to use a compass is inside. Hiking guides, inking with nuts, cooking with the moon, making outdoor theaters, identifying trees, discovering the life cycle of a snowflake, and so much more is packed inside this collection.

When the weather turns cold, just turn up the heat! Outdoor cooking has always been one of my favorite activities year round. I especially enjoy cold weather cooking as it brings an extra touch of the outdoor elements to the whole experience. #steckerlfisch is a traditional way of grilling a fish in Bavaria. The fish is grilled on a stick, over a campfire or a bed of coals. Cooking over hot coals is the best way as coals produce even heat distribution. I'm looking forward to providing more activities for families to do during the winter months, both indoor and outdoor.

BTW- These mackerel turned out great!! 🔥🐟

⚡️Thor’s hammer made from felt ⚡️
🔨
To kick off #woolfeltandyarn week, I wanted to share this hammer with you that I made for my son Lucas. I used gray felt, fairy wool, bottle caps (to add a rattling sound), and a soft wood that I hand carved into a handle for this hammer. Can’t wait to share more projects in the days to come!

I ride on my horse with my sword in my hand,
I ride through the wooded and mountainous land.
I battle with dragons, with giants I fight,
Defending the weak and upholding the right.

My sword is of steel and my helmet is gold,
I dare all adventures, my heart is so bold.
My armour is shining as bright as the light,
For I am a gallant and glorious knight.

Happy Michaelmas, everyone! Here is a picture of Emma slaying her dragon bread 😂.

I don’t know where you could possibly find a cozier and friendlier pair of forest sprites than these from @peacewithnaturehandwork found in the autumn issue of @thesimplelivingcollective . I don’t have much experience with felt and wool, but I will definitely be making a set of these for Emma!

Apparently I went fishing today! 🎣 😂 My 1.5 year old daughter, Emma, made this awesome salt dough pond yesterday and played with it and her “dada” doll all day today. You can check out my wife’s feed (@my_seasonal_treasury) for a tutorial. My wife used raindrops to create the patterns inside the water and then laminated the pond to make it glossy. The rim is salt dough and was created by my daughter. #prouddad 😎

This morning I was able to capture a picture of the Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly (Aglais urticae), commonly known in Germany as the Kleiner Fuchs(Small Fox). This friendly Eurasian butterfly is in the family Nymphalidae. 🦋

Speaking of butterflies, be sure to check out @tanglewoodhollow 's awesome Monarch butterfly guide in @thesimplelivingcollective . Raising our own butterflies has been on Franzi' and my list for a while and I know that the guide will come in handy. Link in bio!!!
