✨ Meet Kai,
the heart behind Sunny Tails Co. 💛

Kai came into my life as a foster from Big Dog Ranch Rescue after being rescued as a street dog in Puerto Rico during a hurricane.

When she first arrived, she was terrified. She would shake, hide, and was unsure of the world around her. Trust didn’t come easily, and confidence came even slower.

Even now, years later, Kai still has scared days. Some situations can still make her nervous, and there are moments when her timid side shows up. But that’s what makes her journey so special. Growth isn’t always about becoming fearless—sometimes it’s about finding the courage to keep going despite your fears.

Over the years, the dogs I’ve walked have helped teach Kai how to be a dog—to play, explore, trust, and enjoy life. Little by little, her confidence grew.

As Kai’s confidence grew, so did her role in our family. Watching her become such a patient and gentle presence around our baby has been one of the most beautiful things to witness. It’s a reminder of just how far she’s come.

One of the most rewarding things has been watching her become the dog she once needed. The same scared rescue who relied on other dogs for reassurance now helps nervous rescue dogs feel safe and come out of their shells.

Kai inspired Sunny Tails because she reminds me every day that growth takes time, kindness matters, and every dog deserves patience, love, and a chance to shine.

Her journey has shown me that some of the most incredible dogs are the ones who just need a little extra time, understanding, and someone willing to believe in them.

Thank you for being part of our journey 🌞💛✨

15 years ago I was just a college student walking dogs for some extra cash. Last picture was taken in Ridley State Creek Park, with some of my first ever doggy clients. Absolutely loved my walks out in the Philly burbs. Now my walks are under the palms by the beach. College me never would have thought i’d start my own business in Florida doing this, giving me the freedom and ability to surround myself in Mother Nature. I’ve been an animal & nature lover my whole life, so it definitely makes sense. I am so grateful for all of the animals in this world, especially the ones i’ve had the pleasure of knowing & loving - my own animals, friends & family’s, & the strangers who have become friends along the way. Thank you for trusting me to care for your animals. Animals are such a blessing to this earth and to all of us. Thank you everyone for the love & support you have given me over the years, I really & truly appreciate it. Here’s to more days in nature & doing what I love 𓃠𓃩𓆉𓆈𓅚𓃹 🐾🌞

2 months with Kai, & 3 months w/out ..
Long story long, I had my first beer in 5th grade. I used to break all my friend’s cigs up until 8th grade. Then I had a cig with my beer & that combo played a massive role in more than half of my life. 2 beers always in my hand, a bucket of beers nearby, and chain smoking. I loved the duo & I loved to party, & I still do. Not here to say I regret my past, because I bloody loved it all. Just here to say trust you’re exactly where you are meant to be & that how beautiful is it that we all get to have our own unique experiences.

Alcoholism runs in my family so I decided at a young age to only drink beer, I could drink as many as I wanted, no problem. The problem was that once I had my 1st, I never wanted to stop. Staying up til the sun came up became a hobby of mine. Down the shore watching the sunrise, nights out in the UK, riding through the jungles in Bali, or bartending long nights & going out with co workers, I truly loved doing it.

Every outing, 1st stop was to get a 12 pk, 2 pks of cigs & redbulls. Some nights I would go get another 12 pk & another pack of cigs. I’ve been in shape and healthy my whole life, I looked fine, I was happy, I functioned perfectly, I live in Florida, what was there to worry about… The drinking & driving, drinking every day, smoking so much in a day, never wanting to stop. I happily showcased all my bad habits.

It was affecting was my health. I told myself i’m going to Brazil, turning 30 & that it was time to close that chapter of my life. I can’t believe I am sitting here saying it’s been 3 months without a cig or beer. I’m just taking one day at a time. Some things keeping me going strong: My health, saving money, my family, & this bloody dog that came into my life. I guess you can say she replaced my bad habits. Rescued each other. It’s not been easy, but I am so very grateful for the past 30 years & cheers to the next 30 🌸🌞🥰🙏🏽

It’s been an honor to witness friends/family who have also become their version of sober. This is not my whole story, I am an open book though so please if you ever need someone to talk to, I promise i’m here as a listening ear & a friend for all 🫶🏽
