Tonight was very special and important. Wow. Please check out the “A Return To...” exhibition commemorating #Juneteenth at @sulfurstudios, curated by @alexisjavierexperiments.

“16 Savannah based artists gave our voices to this conversation that includes themes around the African Diaspora, the spirit of Sankofa (looking back to the past), and how contemporary artists process the present through their creative practices to give us a glimpse into possible futures.”

The work will be on display until 6/20. Follow Sulfur Studios for details on upcoming discussions and performances in this series.

From @wanderingempress - "Black mothers are warriors. Every day is another fight for survival. We battle systematic racism and structural violence with our babies on our hips. We do it with our heads held high and a smile on our face. Our bodies are filled with battle scars. Our bodies remember all the mircoaggressions and every inherited trauma. Our cells know the fears and the fight of our foremothers.
.
Let us hold space for each other on our unique paths to healing. Not everyone has the support/ resources to do "what is best", as we are all doing OUR best.
.
Remember the value of everything you do each day as mothers. It's not just for our children, but their children as well. We are here because our ancestors survived. Our goal now is not just for our children to survive but for them to thrive!
.
When we breastfeed our babies, we are engaged in an exchange of love and trust. These are real nutrients that our children will need for their journeys. These are the nutrients that many of us mamas still need. Love and trust is the medicine of our breasts. There is no plant, prayer or potion more powerful than a mother's milk."
