be easy.
take your time.
you are coming home.
to yourself.
〰️Nayyirah Waheed〰️

Made a big batch of rose + mushroom latte to ease my anxiety about the coming week.

I’ll be teaching a series of diaspora cooking classes to college students which I haven’t had a chance to do since the start of the pandemic.

Anytime I feel anxiety about my classes, I remind myself that my concern is rooted in my abundance of passion, not in any inadequacies I have.

Everything that I do is an offering from my heart, which emanates a powerful healing energy. I remind myself that this energy is powerful and therefore my work in community is always received with love.

Here’s to a week of grounded heart-centered presence. May all that you do be received with love 🤲🏾💖🌹. taken in Savannah, Georgia by @wanderingempress

✨🫖💛Grateful for the plant allies that support our healing.

One of my favorite rituals for cultivating connection with the little one is to make golden milk together. Golden milk is a traditional Ayurvedic drink that’s known for its anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits.

I’ve found that this blend has also been amazing for supporting Ru through all of our family’s transitions. It’s incredibly grounding and heart opening and induces a sense of calmness and supports the flow of energy.

💛ENERGETIC BENEFITS of GOLDEN MILK💛

✨Turmeric contains the energy of the sun, represents the Divine Mother and cleanses all the chakras

✨ Ginger increases personal power and encourages the flow of stagnant emotions

✨Cinnamon raises your vibration and attracts prosperity

✨ Rose petals support the heart in healing from grief, raises your vibration and encourages calmness

INGREDIENTS & DIRECTIONS

* 4 cups of plant milk
* 2 inches of fresh turmeric root (grated)
* 1 tsp of turmeric power
* 1 inch fresh ginger root (grated)
* 3 small cinnamon sticks
* Handful of dried rose petals
* A tablespoon of coconut oil (or ghee)
* A pinch of black pepper

Combine all ingredients and bring to a gentle simmer for 10 mins. Strain and enjoy!

As an island woman, the ocean has always been home. But lately, I’ve felt the call to go even deeper, not just being by the water, but WITH it.

After years of booking kayaking experiences and dreaming about having my own, this weekend, I finally got her. My beautiful kayak. My vessel for peace, movement, and alignment.

Today’s 7/7 portal is a powerful energetic gateway, a time of heightened intuition, spiritual alignment, and manifestation. It’s about recognizing what’s in your heart and boldly choosing it.

This moment, this sunset, this rainbow… it’s all a reminder:

✨You’re allowed to ask for what you need. You’re allowed to receive it.

✨And you deserve to experience the life you’ve been quietly visioning.

Alignment isn’t just spiritual, it’s practical. It’s action.
And sometimes, it looks like paddling toward your peace.

What are you calling in during this portal energy?

My 2️⃣ step self care practice:

🫶🏾 SHARE with another coparenting mama

Sending love to all the coparenting mamas, custody rotations during the summer can be tough. Even though our schedule stays the same throughout the year, missing out on summer experiences has been so hard.

I have a simple two-step self care ritual that I practice when the boys leave for their dad’s to help with the transition:

NOURISH + NATURE

STEP 1 involves prioritizing some form of nourishment. Usually that involves going grocery shopping for the week or taking myself out for a bite. This practice has helped to be establish my solo routine, while helping me to be more intentional about how I’m nourishing my body. I use this as a time to try new foods that the boys wouldn’t typically like and I also usually get myself a bouquet.

STEP 2 involves getting some time in nature. This can be a walk through the park, a bike ride or a stroll through the botanical gardens. If all else fails, I’ll take a stroll through town, which has beautiful squares and stunning architecture. Getting my body moving, while grounding myself in my environment, ensures that I’m regulating my nervous system while also being a bit social.

Do you have a routine after your switch?

Happy 16th birthday Ely🎊🌞

Celebrating this phenomenal human today - and every day! I’ve become increasingly private over the past few years and don’t often post the boys, so I’m going to take this moment to brag on him a bit.

This past year has been so transformative for him! He’s excelled in school, served as a mentor to younger students, was accepted into a theater program AND invited to participate in a college dual enrollment program next year. He’s incredibly creative and will literally teach himself how to do anything through trial and error. He saw some dope pants online, so he used my old sewing machine to make them for himself. He also taught himself how to make music, bake bread from scratch and cook the most delicious recipes for his loved ones. He loves the outdoors and has a garden at both homes. In fact, he built the beds and installed the trellises for both the gardens.

Of all the crafty things he does with his hands, I’m most grateful for incredibly big heart. He’s made so much space for both his dad and I to grow into the grownups that we are today. We’ve grown up along side him and he’s constantly inspiring and challenging up to become better parents. What a gift it is to be his mother! taken in Savannah, Georgia by @wanderingempress

ORCHID FACTS↘...

1. Orchids are one of the oldest flowering plants known to man. Scientists have speculated that orchids have been around as much as 100 million years.

2. In traditional Chinese medicine, orchids are used to help cure coughs and lung illnesses. The Aztecs were known to drink a mixture of vanilla, orchid flowers, and chocolate to give them strength. The ancient Greeks believed certain species to be aphrodisiacs.

3. During the 1800s, a fascination for collecting the flowers erupted into hysteria. The craze, dubbed “orchidelirium,” produced prices in the thousands of dollars. Special hunters were employed to track down exotic varieties in the wild and bring them to collectors, keen to display them in ornate, private greenhouses. taken in Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens by @wanderingempress
