We did it. 😃😃🧶🧵

After 2 months of workshops, stitching, drawing, and creating together, We Are the Weave (vi är väven)officially opened.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us, shared this moment, and kept the installation alive by adding their own contributions during the opening. Watching the artwork continue to grow through your participation was exactly what we hoped for.

Created with more than 100 participants from across Helsingborg, the installation brings together many different stories, experiences, and voices into one shared artwork. Most of the materials used were recycled and environmentally friendly🌳🏞🧶

A special thank you to Zain,Garni, and Sama for all the help throughout the project.

Thank you to ABF for generously lending us the space for our workshops and to all our workshop partners: Spektr Art Club, Folkuniversitetet, Bron Förening, Arbetsmarknadsförvaltningen, Ray cafe Bergalidens vårdboende, and Paul Khadra for sharing the sound piece made from the living sounds of the city, which became a part of the installation.

Finally, thank you to Kulturnämnden Helsingborg for supporting this project and making it possible.

Artists: Ward Zaraa & Sara Khayat

✨ We Are the Weave — a little glimpse from our workshop at Ray Cafe🧵🎨

For us, art isn’t only something you find in galleries… it’s also in the places we love, in our everyday moments, and in the spaces where people come together. That’s why we bring our workshops closer to the community — to places filled with stories, life, and shared experiences.

During the workshop, everyone added their own touch. We created together, shared stories, and ideas 🥰🥰

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and left their mark on this experience. And a special thanks for Ray Café.

We Are the Weave is a collaborative art project built on a simple idea: every person is a thread in the fabric of our city.

Through hands-on workshops, you'll experiment with collage, painting, fabric, stitching, and mixed-media techniques to create something uniquely your own. Cut, glue, paint, sew, layer, and explore—there's no right or wrong way to take part.

Each individual artwork becomes part of a larger shared installation, weaving together the stories, ideas, and creativity of everyone involved. The finished piece will be exhibited in a public space as a vibrant celebration of our city's diversity, imagination, and the connections that bring us together.

Whether you're an experienced artist or simply curious to create, We Are the Weave invites you to leave your mark and become part of something bigger than yourself.

Free entry, starts at 12:00 on Wed July 15.

What if Helsingborg was a living creature? ✨

That was the question we explored with Spektra during the workshops of "We are the weave" project.

A space full of imagination, curiosity, and thinking beyond the ordinary. We played with ideas, stories, and perspectives — imagining the city not just as a place, but as a being with its own personality, feelings, and identity.

So much creativity, wild thoughts, and out-of-the-box thinking in one room 😊😊

We have some happy news to share. 🎊🎊🎊

We received funding from @Kulturnämnden for a new chapter of our #TreeFamily project, called
#vi_är_väven

Our first workshops were with the wonderful seniors at @Bergalidens vårdboende, and they ended up being one of our favourite parts of the project. Over three workshops, they created pieces that are now part of a large fabric collage in Helsingborg
At the vernissage, they'll get to see their work as part of the final installation at Stadsparken, and we can't wait for that moment.

Here are a few photos from the workshops.🥰🥰

Here are some of the food stories we made together.

Image 1: Chaima, from Algeria, shared roasted lamb. It brings back childhood and a sense of ease. She still cooks it, but the table feels empty without family.

Image 2: Farishta, from Afghanistan, spoke about kabuli pulao. The ingredients are easy to find here, but the taste feels different. She misses the freshness.

Image 3: Alexandra, from Poland, shared memories of pierogi and her grandmother’s pancakes with kanel and fresh cheese. They were made on special weekends. She still looks forward to eating them when she visits her grandmother.

Image 4: Bilwa drew from her father’s memory from India. He climbed mango trees to pick fruit. The family made amras and puri and ate together.

Image 5: Jonis shared his own memory. He eats Indomie noodles while watching SpongeBob on TV.

Image 6: Mohammed, from Syria, spoke about shawarma and yabrak. He misses these foods. Now he often cooks fish in the oven.

Each drawing holds a story of home, change, and memory.

Projektet möjliggörs av @visionsfonden
