Brewery Tour & Sake Tasting at Brooklyn Kura 🍶

After our ikebana session, we went behind the scenes for a brewery tour✨

From the brewing process to the tanks and the stories behind each step, it was such a special experience to learn more about how sake is made right here in Brooklyn.

We also tasted three different sakes, each introduced with an explanation of its style and character — making the tasting even more enjoyable and insightful🥂

For many of us, it felt a little like an “field trip” — relaxed, fun, and full of discoveries✨

A big thank you to Kyle @kylitos and the Brooklyn Kura team for sharing so much with us🌼

Ikebana × Sake at Brooklyn Kura 🍶🌼

We gathered in Brooklyn Kura’s taproom for an afternoon of ikebana and sake.

With the same seasonal materials, each guest created something uniquely their own💐

It was especially meaningful to share Japanese culture in a Brooklyn sake brewery, surrounded by people from different backgrounds as well as many Japanese guests living in New York.

Ikebana, sake, and Brooklyn — a combination that felt surprisingly natural.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to the Brooklyn Kura team for making this collaboration possible🌼🍶

BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN

After ten incredible years, I had the honor of sharing the stage once again with my dear friend and coach, the legendary Chris McDaniel! @chrisbuffbill

Reflecting on this performance brings a mix of emotions. It's challenging to see photos of myself as an aging acrobat. My body has endured more than I ever anticipated over the past few years—perimenopause, pregnancy losses, a company collapse, the loss of my identity, and an accident that introduced me to disabilities I’m still learning to navigate.

At times, I feel unworthy of standing on that stage, knowing I'm a far cry from where I used to be. But despite the scars and changes, I remind myself that I’m still here, and the joy I once felt in flight and play still resides within me.

If I pause and look beyond the surface, I see something else: a genuine smile, the thrill of reconnecting with an apparatus I hadn’t touched in years, and the joy of sharing this moment with a dear friend.

I’ve changed so much, but the spirit of that girl I thought was fully lost remains deep within me. In moments of play and reconnection, I can rediscover that part of myself, even if just for a fleeting two minutes.

Thank you, Chris, for standing alongside this lil’ ole acrobat all these years ! 🌈 thank you Jacob for the lift and encouragement also side Mari ! @_jacob_mckee_ @mak.a_r_t

thank you again Ramon for the captures

Another successful event in the books at @brooklynkura for Sake Day Brooklyn! 🍶

Thank you to the Brooklyn Kura team for having us and, of course, to everyone who came out to celebrate sake with us. The evening was an absolute whirlwind; busy from start to finish, with so many guests coming together to taste, discover, and enjoy an incredible variety of sake.

It was wonderful to see sake from Japan alongside the growing community of sake being brewed right here in New York. A true celebration of sake and the people bringing it to new audiences. We poured Nanbu Bijin Umeshu, Yuzu Lemon, Yano Umami, Daishichi Classic, Tsukino Katsura Iwai 88 and Amabuki Banana kanzake with a hint of cinnamon.

Until next time, Brooklyn! Kanpai! 🍶

Shoving the magic of the last 6 weeks into 20 slides 🌀 it is such an enormous honor to know and get to grow alongside the fellow artists I’ve met the last few years. I’ve had conversations and total happenstance meetings that felt so natural. Like everything really is happening at the right time. I love talking to people, I love playing music, I love talking about music, I love writing my music. And I love sharing it with anyone who will listen. LOVE YOU 🫵❤️

Perks of the job: The first oyster is always mine. 🔪🦪😉

Call it quality control, call it tradition—either way, when the bag is filled with Birthday Girls from @mathesonoyster, you better believe I’m slurping number one.

Last night’s sake celebration at @brooklynkura was pure magic. Cold sake, fresh oysters, and unbeatable energy.

Pro tip: When you pull up to Brooklyn Kura, make sure you book the brewery tour. It’s an incredible look behind the scenes of American craft sake. 🍶⚡️

Shuck around and find out!
