IN A FORTNIGHT see a playful and inventive music-theatre performance by @k.s.egan & @mdpinchbeck at @the_lowry > This is a show about a song about a painter performed to the score of the song. < ‘Matchstalks Remastered’ is a farcical re-telling of Lowry’s song — inspired by ‘Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs’, the 1978 hit about artist L. S. Lowry by folk-pop duo Brian and Michael — see it live at Lowry on Wednesday 4 November at 8pm. 🔗 wordofwarning.org (link in profile) Two performers — joined by a live jazz musician and a record player — attempt to keep pace with a relentlessly scrolling animated score that dictates their every move… As they follow its instructions, they weave together compelling stories, machine-like movement, and slapstick humour… Transforming into different characters, they shift between performers, songwriters, Mr Lowry, and the figures in his paintings… Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Lowry’s death, artists Kevin Egan & Michael Pinchbeck reimagine his evocative landscapes through musical score — reflecting on their continuing relevance to community, creativity, and place. ///// 🎟️ Pay What You Can: £15/£10/£5/£2 (link in profile) 📅 Wednesday 4 November 2026, 8pm (dur ~60mins) 📍 Lowry, The Quays, Salford M50 3AZ 🛑 Age Advisory: 12+ (parent/guardian/carer discretion) CREDITS ‘Matchstalks Remastered’ by Egan & Pinchbeck is presented by Lowry + Word of Warning on 4 November 2026 as part of Lowry’s Autumn Contemporary Season. @the_lowry @warnmcr Devisers & performers: Kevin Egan & Michael Pinchbeck @k.s.egan @mdpinchbeck Animator: Becca Horswill @beccahorswillart_ Dramaturg: Ollie Smith @ollie.d.smith Musician: Adam Fairhall @adam.fairhall.7 Video: North West Film Archive at Manchester Metropolitan University. @nwfilmarchive Commissioned by hÅb, and supported by Manchester School of Art, the Performance Research Group, and the School of English at Manchester Metropolitan University. @mcrschart @mcrschart_prg @english_manmetuni @aheadmmu 📷 rehearsal photos by Ollie Smith. #matchstalksremastered #lowry #contemporaryperformance #contemporarytheatre #

Matchstalks Remastered by Egan and Pinchbeck “A show about a song about a painter, performed to the score of the song” - the song is Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs by Brian and Michael (also known as Kevin and Michael), the painter is LS Lowry. The performers are Kevin and Michael, with live music from @adam.fairhall.7, an animated projection of Lowry’s work from @beccahorswillart_, archival footage of Lowry and the industrial north from the @nwfilmarchive and dramaturgy from @ollie.d.smith Presented by @the_lowry and @warnmcr this is a music-theatre project about how we translate our experiences of the world around us - life into painting, painting into music, music into theatre, theatre into life - and how two performers approach that process from different ends, with different priorities and intentions. It’s two people trying to keep up with the relentless conveyor belt projection. One who likes stories, one who likes structures. One who knows what to say, one who knows what to do. One speaker, one doer. Two people stealing each other’s thunder. Wednesday 4 November, 8pm at Lowry, Salford #matchstalksremastered #contemporarytheatre #matchstalkmenandmatchstalkcatsanddogs #musictheatre #lslowry 📷 @evelyn03x

Playing around with videos for our Egan and Pinchbeck show, Matchstalks Remastered, today. Syncing a score with paintings by LS Lowry, beautifully animated by @beccahorswillart_ and footage of Lowry, Salford and the industrial north provided by @nwfilmarchive projected onto canvas. It’s all coming together - and I’m looking forward to showing the results on Wednesday 4 November, 8pm, with @mdpinchbeck and @adam.fairhall.7 Come along - part theatre, part music, part art - some dancing, a musician with 2 accordions and a toy piano, stories about Lowry, one-hit wonders Brian and Michael aka the Matchstalk Men, and two performers who see the world differently trying to keep the turntable spinning… #matchstalksremastered #contemporarytheatre #musictheatre #matchstalkmenandmatchstalkcatsanddogs #trysomethingdifferent Presented with @the_lowry and @warnmcr

[Here is a short edit of the fragmentary documentation of "elipsis" at EMERGENCY 2026, programmed by @warnmcr at @contactmcr on Saturday 26th September 2026] Something omitted. Withheld. Left out. Unsaid. A deliberate gap. A meaningful absence. The strategy of omitting one or more elements from a sequence, narrative, statement, action, or image; implying something could have been present but deliberately isn’t. This absence is perceptible and meaningful. What’s missing isn’t necessarily unknown or unknowable, but can be inferred or understood through what remains. The work was created in June 2025 for a research event at the University of Birmingham. Given this context’s particular bureaucratic challenges, I was unable to use a (...) as initially intended. Replacing this with an ellipsis began as a simple workaround yet became a deliberate strategy, handing agency to the audience and inviting them to fill the gap: ➡️ 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘢𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘤. 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘢𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘤, 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘨 𝘰𝘳 𝘢 (...). As in its original presentation, the performance featured the projection of an edited and expanded text by Tom White @tbizzlebear . #liveart #performanceart #elipsis #emergency2026
