IN NOVEMBER see @k.s.egan & @mdpinchbeck’s playful and inventive music-theatre performance at @the_lowry Inspired by ‘Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs’ (the 1978 hit written about the artist L. S. Lowry by folk-pop duo Brian and Michael) Egan & Pinchbeck perform MATCHSTALKS REMASTERED… A show about a song about a painter performed to the score of the song. 🔗 wordofwarning.org (link in profile) Two performers, joined by a live jazz musician and a record player, attempt to keep pace with a relentlessly scrolling animated score that dictates their every move in this farcical re-telling of ‘Lowry’s Song’. As they follow its instructions, they weave together compelling stories, machine-like movement, and slapstick humour. Transforming into different characters, they shift between performers, songwriters, Mr Lowry, and the figures in his paintings. 🦴 For the 1st iteration of "ellipsis" in June 2025, I used a handful of various old and wearhered animal bones I collected from the Thames' northern shore just downstream of St. Paul's Cathedral. Since the new version of the performance that I'll show today Saturday 26th September (@warnmcr EMERGENCY 2026 @contactmcr) will last almost 4 hours and involve 4 ellipses in the shape of 4 different pieces of white fabric, I had to stock up on bones. So, I gathered a whole suitcaise full of them on Thursday 24th September in the evening, again at the same spot on the north shore of the Thames by St. Paul's. Upon emptying the suitcaise and unpacking the bones when I got home to Birmingham, I had this little reflection about "ellipsis".
