How can students turn their interests into meaningful action? That question was at the heart of today’s Fall Impact Summit, hosted by Rowland Hall’s Center for Community Impact. Upper School students explored topics ranging from housing affordability and environmental justice to civic engagement and the power of storytelling through breakout sessions led by community partners, faculty, and fellow students. They also connected with local organizations to discover opportunities to get involved. With “Designing for Impact” as this fall’s theme, today’s conversations and connections will inspire research and community engagement projects that students will share at the next Impact Summit in April.

Our 1st graders had a wonderful field trip to Wasatch Community Gardens 🥕 🌱 They learned how fruits and vegetables grow, helped water the plants, and even got to taste some of what was growing! What a fun way to learn, explore, and connect with God’s beautiful creations 💚 🍃 @wasatchcommunitygardens #firstgrade #fieldtrip #community #learning #catholicschool

Tuesday is stacked: Aldous Harding at Commonwealth Room, The Linda Lindas at Metro, and Coltrane's 100th birthday celebrated all night at The Green Room. The weekend brings Marmalade JamFest, Mi Gente at Millcreek Common, and Ghostbusters in Concert with a live orchestra Sunday 🐋

As the weather cools off, students in school gardens are probably planning to plant bulbs. Throwback to last fall when I was teaching @washingtonstarspto kindergartens about garlic and how they grow in the winter without access to water. Does your school have a garden where you can volunteer this fall? One challenge of outdoor classrooms is when kids promote and parents leave! Consistent support from groups like @wasatchcommunitygardens helps, but neighbors help even more! 🧄🌱🍂

The latest mural is complete! Just a little beauty, a painted prayer, and love for the community. Thank you to Wasatch Community gardens, the amazing garden manager Josh, and the gardener community at the 4th st Garden, as well as all of the paint donation from Jeremy Ranch Elementary. Featured in this painting: The Three Sisters, Golden Eagle, Coyote, Sage Grouse, Western Screech Owl, Oregon Grape, Woods’ Rose, and of course our beautiful Wasatch Mountain Range. #supporthumanmadeart #wasatchcommunitygardens #nativeanimals

Wow!

Summer 2026! 🙏🏾🫶🏾🪅☀️🦋🌽
Wow! I feel like two years passed this summer, with everything I experienced, shared, observed, and worked on.
Let’s see what fall brings! Thank you, life, and thank you to all the incredible beings I had the chance to connect with.
Hope you’re all doing great! It’s almost Día de Muertos season in Mexico, with pan de muerto and cempasúchil, while over here, everything starts tasting like pumpkin pie or pumpkin spice. 🎃

Missed Tomato party… but my garden had other plans. 🍅🖤

Fresh harvest of my Black Cherry tomatoes, grown from the plants I picked up from @wasatchcommunitygardens earlier this year. 🌱

Tiny, beautiful, and ridiculously satisfying.

And this is just the beginning… 🍅✨

These tomatoes needed a permanent spot in the feed, and what better way to officially announce: I joined the Board of Directors for @wasatchcommunitygardens! 🍅

I started gardening in SLC at the 9 Line community garden, just one raised bed along the bike path. That garden plot changed my life, and now I’m living my dream life on a half acre urban homestead. So to be able to give back to the community org that gave so much to me is an absolute honor.

Wasatch Community Gardens’ four core values are:

🫛 inclusion
🍎 collaboration
🌱 joy
🥕 stewardship

HAVE YOU EVER HEARD A BETTER ALIGNED SET OF VALUES?! Joy AND stewardship? And making it for everyone? Like, yes! Me too! This!

You already know I plan my entire gardening season around the Wasatch Community Gardens Spring Plant Sale every May, and I’m excited to continue spreading the good tidings of community agriculture.

SLC friends if you ever want to get more involved, volunteer at events, come take a tour of the gardens, collaborate with your small biz, hit me up! Veggies for everyone! Gardening for everyone!
