When the world leaves you out, queer community makes room for you. Finding clothes that fit queer and trans bodies can be hard, so the folks at Wasatch Sewing Collective decided to teach our community to make their own. Their sewing workshops are about more than thread and fabric. They’re a space to love your body, take up room, and show up exactly as you are. We’re proud to support this incredible group. We want to see more gatherings like this in 2027 and beyond, and you can help make that happen. This Trans Awareness Week, November 13–19, fly a flag at your home or business and let your neighbors know where you stand. Your flag donation directly funds queer-centered programs like Wasatch Sewing Collective, so every flag raised helps build the next workshop, the next gathering, the next place someone feels at home. Reserve your flag through the link in bio, and help us cultivate a community where everyone belongs. Throwback to our very first Underwear Making Workshop in the fall of 2024 at @undertheumbrellabookstore! Very few photos and none of the finished undies 🫣 —needless to say we learned a lot from this first workshop! For this year’s workshops, participants will pick up their fabric and pattern the Wednesday before the workshop and cut out their pattern at home. That way, day of, we’ll have the majority of the time for the fun part —sewing! We’ll also have separate start times for different skill levels, so you get the instruction you need, and don’t have to sit through stuff you already know. UNDERWEAR MAKING WORKSHOPS Boxer Brief Making Sun Sept 14, 12-5pm Sat Oct 11, 12-5pm *these are two separate workshops Brief (panty) Making Sat Sept 20, 12-5pm For full workshops details and application check out our pinned post, the link in our bio, or the ‘workshop’ page of our website aquaunderwearslc.com

Some stills of our first Undie Making Workshop of 2025 last weekend🧵🪡 This is the second year we’ve been able to teach these sliding scale, gender and size inclusive, sewing workshops. Thanks to a variety of grant funding and partnerships with local orgs like Project Rainbow and Burning Sissy Valley (BSV). These 6-8 hour workshops are a bit of a crash course, where participants of all skill levels, even those who’ve never sewn before, make their own underwear from start to finish. Big shoutout to Selena Pham of BSV, my wonderful assistant instructor, and comic relief —still waiting for their sewing stand up set 👀. Our last workshop of the year —Boxer Brief Making, is Saturday October 11. It’s at capacity, but the waitlist is open! Often a spot or two opens up, so could still be worth filling out the application. Application and more info in our pinned post, bio, and website.

Brief Making Workshop! Our 2nd undie making workshop was last weekend —and was a blast. It’s so exiting to see how thrilled everyone was with their finished panties! These are intensive workshops —many participants going from learning to sew to finished undies in just a handful of hours! Our last workshop is Boxer Brief Making, Saturday October 11th and may still have a couple openings. More details in our pinned post, our bio, and website. Or just reach out since it’s approaching quickly! These workshops are for anyone who wants to learn to sew, learn to sew with knits (stretchy fabric), and of course make underwear. Sliding scale pricing, size & gender inclusive, and taught by trans and nonbinary instructors. In collaboration with Burning Sissy Valley and Project Rainbow. 🎥 @captured.by.quin & Mel of Aqua Underwear

Some stills from the brief (panty) making workshop a few weekends ago! Participants made cozy everyday briefs in bamboo fabric, and compression briefs (tucking lite), for themselves or loved ones, for a variety of gender needs —some sewing for the very first time! This workshop and the others we put on this year were a collaboration between Mel Martinez of Aqua Underwear, Selena Pham of Burning Sissy Valley, Talia Parkinson, and Project Rainbow. We’re so grateful to receive grant funding to make these workshops affordable and accessible for LGBTQIA+ community! There aren’t anymore planned for this year but we’re working hard to secure more funding for 2026 —sign up for the Aqua Underwear newsletter via our website to get updates! We do have some monthly Open Sewing Studio sessions planned Sat Nov 8, Sun Dec 7, and Sat Jan 10, sliding scale $10 - 30 —head to the AU website for details and to register.

Selena appreciation post :) Been wanting to make this for a while —and what better week than Trans Awareness Week! We’ve been co-instructors for the Undie Making Workshops for the last couple of years and I’m so grateful they keep agreeing to teach together. Thanks for being such a great sewist, instructor, helper, and heckler Selena! Selena Pham (they/them), is a queer Asian amateur needle worker, college student, and co-organizer with Burning Sissy Valley, a community building org for QTPOC in Utah. A note on workshops —These sliding scale priced, size and gender inclusive underwear making workshops have been put on in collaboration with @burningsissyvalley and @projectrainbowutah yearly thanks to generous donation and grant funding. We’re currently fundraising for 2026. More info, newsletter signups, and a workshop interest form can be found in our bio and Aqua Underwear website.
