Happy Birthday to meeeeeee! Yall, today was an incredible day and it’s only 12 oclock! Nick rescued a kid out of the alley at 8am then came inside and cooked 100 tacos, a stolen purse was recovered, we fed pancakes to our unhoused friends, a fence that had been burned down was resolved by our friendly code endorsement officer, and I negotiated a soccer training camp and 2 scholarships for South Dallas students to join Athletico and Trinity FC! Come on God. I never knew I could make 20 smoothies before 10 am and flip pancakes at the same time. In the middle of cooking, a teen asked me for a job so she could help her mom pay bills... This year has brought some unexpected surprises, challenges, and a lot of hard work and what brings me the most joy is all of MY kids from the neighborhood telling me “this place makes me feel good.” One of my special students brought me a stuffed lion for my birthday and they all wanted to sing me happy birthday. Shout out to @starfirejoe for sponsoring the kids and @balieegracee for working the register !!! Then, a man sang me happy birthday in a rendition that was better than Jerome e Rome from Martin! Shout out to Ashley for being the @watermark_cdc team to meet at the coffee shop! Shout out to Madison Assistant Principal Mr OJ for coming through again! Ms Marva and Mr Leonard you are always connecting the dots and doing it so humbly. We are grateful for the support. This is the new narrative for South Dallas. Things are getting better by the day and we are expectant for what is to come! Yes, today has been a phenomenal birthday. #mlkwellnesscenter #kingdomcafe #madison #younglife #watermark

I’ve now lived in Dallas for 3 years, feels a little like a fever dream because my life and my faith have changed so significantly in this last 3 years. I am not the Shannon that I was in Chicago before. I have continued to grow and change and step more into who I have been called to be in the Lord’s Kingdom.

I feel such an immense privilege to be doing Kingdom work here in South Dallas with some of the most incredible Spirit filled individuals. Yesterday afternoon quite literally filled my cup spiritually and reminded me of why we follow Christ. I needed that. God is so kind.

I never knew what was on the other side of my yes to God in picking up my whole life and all I ever knew to move to a new state and get married and change church’s. All I can say is, there is always blessing on the other side of your yes to God even when you don’t understand. And it may not always be easy, but He is always going to be with you.

“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

This month, we're celebrating five years of Watermark CDC's impactful work in our city! 🥳 Over that time, we’ve seen neighbors take real steps toward a brighter future: purchasing homes and cars, finishing degrees, starting businesses, and growing in their careers.

Each story is different, but the thread is the same: steady progress, supported by mentors and community, while abiding in Jesus together. 🙌

We’re grateful for what God has done. And we’re aware the need is still greater than what we can meet today.

For every one participant Watermark CDC can serve, four people are being turned away because of limited resources.

If you’d like to help create more opportunities for your neighbors, visit watermarkcdc.org to serve or give. Let’s continue building lasting change in our city together!

Watermark CDC exists to put the love of Christ into action by providing job training and financial support so neighbors in South Dallas and across our city can build steady careers and strong financial futures. 🙌

Since we launched in 2020, by God’s grace, homes and cars have been purchased, degrees earned, careers grown, businesses built, and through it all, many faithful disciples have abided in Jesus together.

But the need across our city is still great. If you’d like to invest your time or resources in creating life-changing opportunities for your neighbors, please visit watermarkcdc.org and partner with us. Let’s build lasting change in Dallas together.
