This is one of those if you know where to look moments :)

I’m already out of Berlin, so I didn’t get to spend as much time at this year’s Art Week as I would have liked. But because I’m always interested in innovative ways of experiencing art, I had to make a few quick rounds with @wava__ar and @bienalsaopaulo around the city of Berlin.

Through Apparitions, works from the 36th São Paulo Biennial appear as digital extensions in selected locations around the world, inviting you to encounter art through your phone and the spaces around you. I love how they’ve quietly taken over Art Week, with works by artists including Adama Delphine Fawundu, Akinbode Akinbiyi, Ming Smith, Andrew Roberts and more appearing in unexpected places.

Something different, forward thinking, away from the usual at #berlinartweek. Experiencing art across borders, while also challenging the status quo of how and where we encounter it.

Maybe we do a walk soon? Would be cool, @benlw. Learn more on prazzlearts.com

»Uplifting Instruction« (2026) by William Forsythe

The new work ‘»Uplifting Instruction« by @william_forsythe_ at @zkmkarlsruhe invites you to discover a message in the virtual world.

The app-based augmented reality (AR) installation, premiered during the opening of the Venice Biennale in April 2026, features four airplanes flying across the sky above the ZKM, each towing a black banner. Together, the banners form an instruction for action. To read the message in its entirety, viewers must move and follow the airplanes with their smartphone screens.

Two things I learned last week from the instagram comment section of my augmented reality Frieze piece. One of them surprised me: people have very strong opinions about AR, and almost no one actually reads the articles. So here are some screenshots ☝️

Thanks you @chloeellenstead for commissioning and for the sharp editing!

🌀 Virtuelle Kunst im Garten der
VILLA 102 - KfW Stiftung & @wava__ar

Führung am 15.07. um 13:00 Uhr
Jetzt anmelden!

ℹ️

• The Evidence @elianurvista, 2023:

🌀 Virtual Art in the Garden of
VILLA 102 - KfW Stiftung & @wava__ar

Guided tour on July 15 at 1:00 p.m.

Register now!

ℹ️
From September 2025 to September 2026, the foundation KfW Stiftung will explore the potential of digital art using the WAVA AR platform. Using GPS and augmented reality (AR), WAVA brings artworks to specific locations—without any physical installations.

Three works are presented virtually. Each illustrates, in its own way, the potential to be discovered in virtual art.

• Heavy on the Scale 121g @salwaleryani: A virtual glass sculpture whose height is determined by the price of gold. It was digitally modeled and raises the question: What is the value of virtual art?

• The Evidence @elianurvista, 2023:
An immersive film about Indonesia’s palm forests, which can be experienced life-size in the garden.

• Untitled @khvaysamnang, 2011
Here, WAVA becomes a tool for protest. A virtual copy of the film can be located via GPS signal at the site in Cambodia where it was filmed—a location where the artist draws attention to ecological and social displacement.
