In the month of September, Los Jardines had been traveling and representing our community on the East Coast. Richard Moore, LJI Co-Coordinator, traveled to Bowie State University in Maryland to receive an “Environmental justice Lifetime Impact Award. We then were honored to receive an award presented by the Center for Engagement Environmental Justice and Health. Richard then traveled to Wilmington, Delaware to meet with our Environmental Justice Health Alliance partners and Delaware State Representative Larry Lambert a strong supporter of Environmental Justice. We then went off to New York City for Climate Week where he presented on panels with the Just Transition Alliance, an NRDC panel on building just relationships, and a history panel on the coming together for the first People of Color Leadership Summit hosted by WE ACT. Most importantly, we got to host our first workshop with the New Mexico No False Solution Coalition, which was well attended, thank you to all for the support. New Mexico Representing!

Did you know we spend 90% of our time in our homes? Did you also know that air pollution from gas appliances and other hazards are making us sick? For #IndoorAirQualityMonth, we’re sharing the stories of the advocates who are making sure our air is clean, inside and out. “In communities of color and low-income communities, folks often live in homes that aren’t energy efficient running older appliances that operate on fossil fuels, like their stove, oven or clothes dryer. As we move through autumn and into winter, folks are going to be indoors more to escape the cold, trying to heat their homes with fossil fuel-powered appliances while being disproportionately burdened with rising prices for energy. Reduced indoor air quality from fossil fuels and the burden of unfairly high energy prices is a lethal mix with negative effects on physical, mental and emotional health. We need fair indoor air quality regulations in place and more investment in clean energy to save our communities. We deserve clean air in the places where we live, sleep and love our families. Inhabiting the Landscape: Collective Garments for a Living Ecology Fashion Show & Public Conversation Saturday, October 24, 2026 | 3–4:30 PM @PS122 Gallery, 150 First Ave, NYC Yohanna Roa & Felicia Young present nine wearable artworks developed over the past four years through the Costume/Bio-Arts workshops Yohanna Roa led as Costume/Textile Artist-in-Residence and Workshop Instructor with Earth Celebrations. Created collectively with community participants for Ecological City: Procession for Climate Solutions directed by Felicia Young, these garments explore urban ecology, environmental awareness, and the relationships between artistic production, ecological knowledge, and community participation. The fashion show will be followed by a public conversation with Felicia Young, Founder and Executive Director of Earth Celebrations, and Yohanna M. Roa, examining how collaborative artistic practices can generate environmental awareness, shared knowledge, and forms of collective action. About the speakers Yohanna M. Roa is a New York-based transcultural feminist visual artist working across performance, textiles, garment-making, and critical archival intervention. Her practice examines how history, knowledge, and memory are materially produced and embodied. Through wearable works and participatory textile processes, she approaches the body as a site of knowledge and artistic production as a method of research, collaboration, and public engagement. Felicia Young is a social-action artist and Founder and Executive Director of Earth Celebrations, a nonprofit organization based on New York’s Lower East Side. Since 1991, she has developed interdisciplinary art projects integrating visual art, performance, public processions, education, and civic participation to address environmental and social issues, including community-garden preservation, watershed restoration, coastal resilience, and climate action.
