Our 2024-2025 Impact Report is here.

Last year, we saved New Yorkers $200 million annually by repealing the 100-foot gas rule, won a landmark lawsuit to enforce NY’s Climate Act, passed a statewide ban on PFAS and toxic chemicals in menstrual products, and secured a $20 million increase in LIHEAP funding — despite federal efforts to eliminate the program entirely.

And that’s just the beginning. Read the full report to see the full scope of our work at the city, state, federal, and global levels.

The fight for environmental justice starts right here in our own backyard. We are proud to share our 2026 Policy Agenda, a strategic roadmap designed to protect the health and environment of Northern Manhattan.

From Uptown to the heights, we are advocating for policies that ensure our community —leads the transition to a greener, fairer future. This agenda addresses critical local issues, from improving air quality to advancing healthy housing.

Our advocacy is only as strong as the community behind it. We need you to help us defend our neighborhoods and hold decision-makers accountable.

Oppose the “Affordability and Jobs Act” (BAAJA)

Lawmakers say they need to cut through the “red tape” so big business can build projects faster, like data centers. But what they really mean is they want to cut protections for people.

We are not red tape.
Our health, air, water, and land deserve protection. ❤️🌻

The so-called “Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act” (BAAJA) is scheduled for a vote in the Senate on November 9, 2026. If passed into law, this bill would weaken environmental protections and our rights.

Call your Senators today! Tell them to vote NO on the “Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act” (BAAJA)
U.S. Senate Switchboard: 202-224-3121

“Permit reform” sounds boring. This is by design.

Proponents urging the latest federal permitting deal promise more cheap energy for Americans. Conveniently, they want you to ignore what you’ll lose in the process or how they plan to put this resource in the public’s hands (hint: there’s no measures for actually doing so). Instead, the “Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act” sets out to...

- Change the law’s mandate for agencies to apply “best available science,” forever casting highly relevant imperiled species and ecosystem data into doubt.
- Hollow out protections in the Endangered Species Act into mere electives for states who choose to consider them (directly undermining a bedrock environmental law during this time of biodiversity crisis).
- Gut National Environmental Policy Act provisions that allow the public to participate in comment periods and democratically challenge bad projects in their communities.
- Open the floodgates for energy projects of ALL kinds, including fossil fuel infrastructure to power data centers, to be built as quickly as possible, with no safeguards that even pretend to keep this limited to renewable sources.

Don’t fall for the rhetoric. This is a shady deal with deeply harmful long-term implications. We can and will make a better path towards an equitable, renewable future. This isn’t it.

Call your U.S. representatives and senators to oppose this bad permit reform deal and fight for real solutions to an equitable, renewable future.

To learn more about this issue broadly, head to our latest Stories of Kinship podcast episode, “Utopian Blueprint or Deal with the Devil?” featuring WELC’s Erik Schlenker-Goodrich and Revolving Door Project’s Hannah Story Brown. by @weact4ej

On #ChildrensEnvironmentalHealthDay, we want all our kids to breathe clean air. But half of U.S. kids are living with unhealthy levels of air pollution, and communities of color have almost 8 times higher childhood asthma rates.

That’s why we’re holding US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) @epagov accountable, and why we #DARETOBREATHE! Join us: Tell the EPA to stop rolling back life-saving clean air protections. Take action: bit.ly/daretobreathepetition

Despite campaigning on energy affordability, the Trump administration’s policies have instead given people across the U.S. higher energy bills and more pollution. But there is a solution: energy‑efficiency upgrades and renewable energy. They not only lower energy bills but also improve indoor air quality and health, and make homes more resilient to increasingly extreme weather.

In June, New York passed a law to end an unfair, outdated policy called the 100 foot rule. The Legislature voted, and Governor Hochul signed it! Now comes the important part: implementation.

Under this rule, gas customers have been footing the bill for new gas hookups at the tune of $600 million a year. These unnecessary costs are built right into the delivery charges on your gas bill.

The Public Service Commission has the power to put this law into action. Over 1 million households are behind on their utility bills and are at risk of utility shutoffs; implementing the 100 ft rule repeal is a common-sense way to give relief to gas customers across the state. We’re asking them to do it with no loopholes and no delays.

Data center proposals are reaching city councils and statehouses faster than local rules can keep up.

Communities Take Charge: Data Center Model Policy Guide gives organizers and state and local leaders free model policies to adapt. It includes:

• Moratorium ordinances for states and localities
• A regulatory ordinance that sets standards for energy, water, pollution, transparency, labor, and subsidies
• A step-by-step map of where communities can step in

We built it with @climate_xchange, @foe_us, Model Climate Laws Initiative, @public_citizen, Rooted Futures Lab, @runonclimate, and @weact4ej, plus nine contributing organizations.

We launched it at #ClimateWeekNYC with Maine Rep. Melanie Sachs, New York Asm. Anna Kelles, KD Minor of the Alliance for Affordable Energy, and Mar Zepeda of @cjaourpower, moderated by our own Katie Thomas.

⚡️☀️OF COURSE communities most impacted by pollution and climate change want clean energy...deregulation is NOT the answer. Read more and share our statement on the latest deregulatory #PermittingReform effort: LINK IN BIO!

“We cannot allow the lies to continue, as the facts are clear: If this backroom permitting reform deal is pushed through, it will enable a no-guardrails buildout of dangerous projects that will harm our health and environment, drive up energy costs, and violate our rights.”
