Why?

Just because:

“When I lose, the sense of motivation and the sense to prove something as a basketball player, it’s time for me, to move away from the game of basketball.”

My world stopped for a while, my heart as well.

Featuring a game worn pair of Cardinal VII, as he worn on the Sports Illustrated cover.

On the last 4 slides, a collage from Above and Beyond Vhs.
My favorite part of the video..damn, I know it by heart.

🎽🩳 THE BAGGY ERA 🩳🎽

▪️

There was a time when nothing in the NBA could be too big!

Long shorts. Oversized jerseys. XXXL T-shirts. Baggy jeans.

Let’s not forget those suits….

The look took shape in the late ’80s and early ’90s, with Michael Jordan and Michigan’s legendary Fab Five pushing basketball towards longer, baggier style.

By the 2000s, the Baggy Era was in full swing.

But it was about more than uniforms.

Basketball and hip-hop culture were hard to separate.

Oversized T-shirts, durags, chains, throwback jerseys and baggy jeans became part of the look on the streets and around the NBA.

Nobody represented that crossover better than Allen Iverson.

Cornrows. Tattoos. Durags. Oversized clothes. Jewellery.

AI showed a generation that an NBA superstar didn’t have to look like the stars before him.

Then came the suits. 👀

The 2003 Draft said it all: LeBron in all white, Carmelo in grey, and jackets and trousers several sizes too big.

On court, Kobe, Vince, T-Mac, AI and LeBron made long shorts and loose jerseys the defining look of the early 2000s.

Then, in 2005, the NBA introduced a business-casual dress code.

The baggy era didn’t disappear overnight, but fashion began to shift.

By the late 2000s and 2010s, suits were tailored, fits were slimmer and shorts were getting shorter.

The Baggy Era wasn’t just a fashion trend.

It was basketball, music, streetwear and culture colliding at exactly the right time.

Michael Jordan didn’t just build a legacy. He built the standard every superstar after him has been measured against.

6 championships. 6 Finals MVPs. 5 MVPs. 14 All-Star selections. 10 scoring titles. 9 All-Defensive First Team selections. And a career scoring average of 30.1 points per game, the highest in NBA history.

But the numbers only tell part of the story.

Jordan turned basketball into a global phenomenon, made the impossible feel routine, and created a level of fear and expectation that still follows every player chasing greatness today.

LeBron has the longevity. Kareem has the resume. Kobe had the mentality.

But MJ became the blueprint.

Nearly 25 years after his final game, we’re still debating whether anyone has surpassed him.

That might be the greatest part of his legacy.

Did Michael Jordan set a standard that can never truly be broken?
