The Saudi Emblem Archives by Bytwo 🇸🇦

Bytwo is a design studio based in JAX District, founded by Abdullah Kenani and Mohammed Alruways, bringing together design, publishing, and a shared passion for collecting books and prints. Their work spans posters, publications, and exhibition design.

Through their practice, the Saudi duo explores different ways of expressing their ideas in visual language, drawing inspiration from art, culture, and Diriyah.

Muhammad Alruwaitea is a Saudi photographer working in analog photography. His artistic practice practice investigates how the elements of everyday life indicate shared human experiences; his photography serves to preserve small details while focusing on the worth of regular moments.

Despite the prevalence of digital image-making today, Alruwaitea remains dedicated to analogue photography. His expertise includes every stage of the process, from exposing film and developing and negatives to darkroom printing, film scanning, and experimentation with techniques such as screen printing. These processes are essential to the creation of the photograph, demonstrating patience, craftsmanship, and a tactile relationship with the image.

This work is currently on display at our showroom ✨.

Some snapshots from Riyadh, Feb-Mar 2026

Living here for the past month (while visiting family in KSA) has been a valuable and somewhat scattered experience. From biennial visits, to photographing here, Ramadan, meeting a lot of wonderful new people, thoroughly exploring various neighborhoods, experiencing some missile alerts (thankfully, not too many), practicing some Saudi Arabic during metro commutes, learning how to recognize various sounds in the sky, and just taking it all in. One of the highlights for sure was a talk with @wearebytwo studio, and visiting their space in person at last.

Developing a deep interest in the country, with lots of places I hope to see here soon. Thankful to Sabih Ahmed, @andrisbrinkmanis2, and Dr. Ahmed from the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (Wrth) for taking me around the city and the exhibitions here. Also thanks to friends who gave some good recommendations for what to see & do here.

It’s a strange and heavy time. Praying for soon peace in the region, and safety for all friends and their dear ones in all nearby countries.

#SceneinSaudi: The Diriyah Biennale Foundation is hosting an artist talk titled ‘Unpacking the Studio: The Studio as an Accordion Book’, led by the Biennale’s Co-Artistic Director Sabih Ahmed alongside multidisciplinary design studio bytwo.

Part of the ongoing ‘Unpacking the Studio’ conversation series, the talk explores the studio as a dynamic creative space – one that extends beyond making into curatorial thinking, research, and experimentation. Using the accordion book as a framing device, it examines how a studio unfolds beyond a single physical space and into built projects.

“Connections as Method: Relational Pedagogies and Participatory Spatial Practice” explores architecture as a living dialogue between people, places, and shared knowledge.

Published on the occasion of the Venice Biennale Architettura 2025, and developed within the framework of the National Pavilion of Saudi Arabia @saudipavilion @archmoc, the book brings together over 60 voices rethinking how we teach, learn, and practice space.

Edited by @beabiyue and @maryamalnoaimi_ it takes us through essays, conversations, and case studies, it proposes connection as both method and responsibility — foregrounding collaboration, situated knowledge, and participatory spatial practice across geographies.

Of the Earth at Diriyah Art Futures Museum @dafmoc — a shared environment of shifting thresholds, where layered and reflected vistas turn the space into a moving assemblage of artworks, audiences, and architecture. We had the privilege of designing the exhibition and all bespoke scenography.

Riyadh was an important stop in our book fair journey last year as we took part in Paperback Art Book Fair 2025. Joining the fair at this moment of the city’s cultural scene gave us new perspectives, solid conversations, and unexpected opportunities. We met new audiences, exchanged ideas, and spent time connecting throughout the fair, along with good food and long days on the floor.

What stood out for us was meeting the audience and sharing time and conversations with all of you throughout the fair. Thank you for the interest, questions, and great experience around independent publishing. We’re grateful for the invitation and for everyone who welcomed us, and glad to have crossed paths within a scene that continues to grow.
